Antique 19th Century Copper, Brass Top, French Black Powder Flask by AG Aparis
Antique. 19th Century, French copper black powder flask with brass top. The spout and spring are missing. The design engraved on both sides is a graceful tree, the leaves resemble a sycamore, and a hunter with a hunting pouch and hat is standing with a raised rifle pointed toward a rabbit in the distance, chased by a hunting dog. There is a rope pattern around the scene, and framed ovals with tiny flowers in circles around the top. The original rings to hang it from are attached on each side. It is signed by the famous French flask-maker, AG Aparis. Some of his works are featured in the book, The Powder Flask Book. By Ray Rilings. I was not able to see a copy of the book to see if this flask design is in it, and I could not find it anywhere else. I believe it is a rare flask. The flask is 14cm(5 1/2" long. Copper and Brass Powder Flask With Shell Design Both Sides Shell design powder flask. With 4 suspension loops and pins, with excellent strong spring and pattern on both sides of the flask. Flask measures 7" in length, with a maximum width of 3 1/4" and a thickness of approximately 1 1/2" Seams are in excellent condition, and we believe the pictures are an accurate reflection of the condition of the item. Please note that the pattern is exactly the same on each side. It does not appear that any restoration or"clean-up" has been done on this item. My father was a collector and purchased this sometime in the late 1940's from another collector of Civil War type items, but we do not know the date of this particular item.

Excellent vintage condition with just one minor dent(see 6th& 7th pics) Otherwise, near mint condition with NO missing or broken parts nor any other major defects whatsoever. Made entirely of copper& brass(only expection is the throat release, which is iron or steel) Body wears much of its original lacquer finish and has superb, finely aged patina throughout, including some really outstanding, thick verdigris near at neck/ rim. Spout is included but covered in a silver toned, hardened material(non-ferrous.perhaps lead? I have no idea why it is like this(see last two pics for close-ups) Screws in/out smoothly and attaches snug/tight. ... moreThroat release/spring works like new with nice pressure. Rare Circa 1800's Powder Flask With Fluted Ornate Leaves and Patterns in the Violin Shape. This is made of copper and has a beautiful patina to it. All four lanyards are still in place. The settings for powder measurements graduate from 2 1/4; 2 1/2; 2 3/4 and 3 Dram. The most likely use of these four measurements would have been we believe for a rifle somewhere in the.56- 69 caliber range from our research. This wonderfully crafted flask has survived through three different centuries! As stated previously this was made in Shefffield. England by G. J.W. Huntsley and the dimensions are as follows: 8" high X 3 1/4" wide X 1 3/8" in depth. You should find this in Riling's to help you make a decision to buy this piece. Antique 1800s Civil War Era Copper Embossed Hunt Scene Black Powder Shot Flask
No Reserve! This is a very nice antique powder flask with an embossed hunting or fishing scene on the front and back. The scene shows a man standing next to a pond with his dog across the water and a tree in the background. The flask is made of copper with a brass neck and cap. I was told it dates to the Civil War period. But whether it was used in that conflict I cannot say. At any rate, it's an unusual old flask. It measures 6-3/4" long and the body is just over 3" wide at the widest point. It has the original cord. Which appears to be woven hair with a string covering. Much of the string has come off. The flask itself has a rich patina and is dented in spots. There appears to be a repair weld along one seam near the bottom(see photo) The cap is missing. All in all. A very nice, very old flask. Copper Gun Powder Flask with American Flags Guns & cannons
Natural Born Picker Original era black powder flask with missing cap and screws. It shows its age with the patina over the copper. And I have been looking up designs on original flasks lucky to find others with original origin as well. It is decorated with a patriotic face. The bottom center shows a cannon surrounded by draped flags with stars and stripes visible on the front most flag on the left side. There is residue on the surface which looks like residue left by the person cleaning their weapon. The three holes for screws are still present in good condition if a buyer can place a top cap with it. As a collector I seem to feel like it tells something about the story of the life of the age old item. The flask with the remaining bottom piece is 6" in height 1" and a half in thickness and 4" at its bottom width and weighs ... morethree to four ounces. Markings on the flask are DR M(raised letter) PATENT and the powder gradations of 3, 3 1/4, 3 1/2, 3 3/4, and 4. The rotating adjustment for the powder measures works and the thumb lever moves and the spring returns it to original position. Old green string may be original. Original as found, as is condition.
