Estate Copper Etched Printing Plate Block Man Bathing Suit Smoking Tobacco Pipe This antique Copper Etched printing block/plate was just purchased at a local estate sale. The block is made of very old wood and measures just about 4" by 2 3/8" It is just shy of 1" thick. On top of the wood are 2 different layers of metal. The first layer seems to be iron or steel and the top layer is copper. Etched into the top copper layer is a man wearing a bathing suit which seems to be the style of the early 1900's. He is standing on the beach and smoking a pipe. I am assuming this was some type of advertisement. But I am not sure for what. There are some dark spots which may be leftover ink and a couple of scratches upon close inspection. I do not see any major damage or dents to the metal. Is 8 ¼” high. 12 ¼” 1/8” wide and is stamped on the base with- EHP Sheffield. England. Hand Chased” The well made cast ladle is 12 ½“ long and 5” wide across the bowl. Original MUNTZ Copper Hull Plating from the Clipper CUTTY SARK This is an Original piece of Muntz Copper Hull Plating removed from the Cutty Sark during restoration in the 2007 and before the fire on board destroyed most of the Clipper. This piece plating is approx. 8 cm x 8 cm. This piece is an exposed section from a full 16" width of a sheet of MUNTZ Plating found on the Hull. There are marks on the muntz from where it was on the ships hull and a couple of nail holes. The photo shows the side of the sheet open to the sea which has a nice colouration. The back of the sheet which was against the hull varies in colour from aqua blue to black to shiney brass coloured muntz. See Photo. The piece comes with a Certificate of Provenance. 54) An unusual item from the most Famous Tea Clipper still in existence. It is copper over what is either aluminum or lead. I'm not sure. It was manufactured by The Art Metal Works, Inc. which was located in Newark, NJ on Mulberry St. They were well known for their metal works. I acquired 11 of these plates which are all listed on separate auctions. When I got them they were in the original box that they had been mailed in. The box was addressed to a W.T. Gress in Ottawa. Ill. The box back is stamped with the Company name and address. It also has(3) 1-1/2 cent Harding US stamps on the box. Harding stamps were issued in 1925. That is how I determined the age of the plates. Vintage HAND-TOOLED TURKISH COPPER METAL HANGING WALL PLATE, 11"
This is a spectacular. Pre-owned, 11 inch copper& metal hanging wall plate hand-crafted in Turkey. Front of plate displays intricate, layered, hand-tooled floral motifs and scrolled edges- looks SILVER over a copper base. The design is so intricate, it appears that each segment was separately hammered into the plate, creating texture, glitter, and interest. Plate measures 11 inches across! Quite a good sized display piece. Has a hanging ring on the back. Condition is vintage but very nice. I noted one small"green" spot which is simply oxidation of the copper and might easily be cleaned. The spot only measures about 1/4" Otherwise this piece glitters beautifully in the light and makes a wonderful display! Smith Co of Boston(c. 1887-1958) The tray also contains markings of a cross. Crown and a shield. It is silver plate over copper. There are four feet, small half circles under the tray. There is plenty of room to add an Engraving! The size is approx. 29" handle to handle) X 19" and weighs over 7 lbs. This tray contains a patina that only comes with age. It is in beautiful shape with minor wear.
