Circulation, and Skin Plate no. 4 This rare anatomical wall chart with drawings was originally created by Franz Frohse in 1910 at the University of Berlin. It was one of several charts he created. Each one covering different aspects of anatomy. Because of their accuracy and clarity, they were quickly adopted for instruction in America. Commerce was interrupted at the outbreak of WWI and these German illustrations were reproduced in the United States by the A.J. Nystrom Co. Chicago. The original charts were edited by Max Brodel of John Hopkins University school of medicine. The American charts were copyrighted in 1918 and became the classroom standard at leading universities. This auction is for two medical display trays with hand out sheets. The first display is the respiratory system. The tray has a cover which has a raised formed panel showing the chest. Lungs, and pharnyx. It is very detailed and names all the parts of the organs. At the bottom it is marked Schering Plough. Inside the display case are over forty sheets showing the same information as the cover. Very highly detailed on glossy paper. These sheets are not raised as the cover. The second display is the heart. The tray has a cover which has a raised formed panel showing the heart with views of the anterior and posterior. The valves. And phases of the heartbeat are also described. It is very detailed and names all the parts of the organs. At the bottom it is marked Schering Plough. Used anatomical heart model which is approximately 5 times the size of a normal heart for easy identification of internal structures. It's dissectible into four separate parts which also show internal tissues, muscles, and valves. This big boy measures approximately 8" x 8" x 13" not including the stand. It's in moderate condition but unfortunately has a long crack along one side(see photos) It's still great for a static display with the crack placed out of view. This is an anatomical model of the human heart. The heart is made of plastic and rests on a plastic stand. The pieces are in nice condition. It appears that a small plastic piece may be missing. Otherwise. This is a nice piece of medical advertising history. The heart separates to see into the human heart model. The heart is about 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide. Here's a very nice vintage 2 piece heart model by Somso of Germany. The model is attached to a post and shows the structures of the heart. Both inside and out. Including the stand. The model measures about 11½ inches tall. The heart itself is about 7 inches long and 4 inches wide. The piece weighs more than 1¼ pounds before packaging. There is a maker's label on the base. The bottom has a date stamp that says"26 März 1961. The model is in very nice condition. Though there is some loose tape on the inside at the tricuspid valve. It can probably be reattached quite easily, but I'll leave that to the discretion of the buyer. Also, there is a small amount of paint loss at the edges of the base. Heart Anatomical Chart in beautiful condition. Canadian Pamela Lariviere illustrated medical and anatomy drawings for the Denayer-Geppert Company in the 1940's. She was one of the first anatomy illustrators to use the vivid colors and detail in the abstract form to portray the living. Healthy organs in anatomy charts. Lavriere trained under Max Brodel in 1931 at John Hopkins Medical School where he had created the first School of Medical Illustrators. The pieces of the heart pull out so a student can view what it looks like.then the piece goes back into its cavity. Each piece is numbered. The colors are very good, still vibrant after all this time. It sits on a wood stand that has a navy blue and silver metal tag reading"Bobbitt Laboratories Burlington North Carolina" Also, embossed on the side of the heart is"1973 Bobbitt Laboratories Inc" The whole piece measures 15" high.the wooden stand is 9 1/2" wide. It is 3 lb, 2.4 oz before being boxed. Condition is very good. Shows some wear of course after 43 years. A few scuffs, nothing broken, color excellent.
