Set of 4 Vintage White Porcelain Furniture Wheel Casters #1
I've sold many of these porcelain wheels and there are a couple of things I've seen that is common with most all of them as old as these casters are. These were hand forged and will not be a perfect matching set. Some shafts are slightly longer or larger than others and there will almost always be chips and broken pieces on the wheels. After all, they are porcelain and fragile. All the sets I have listed have these common flaws, so look at the pics closely, they are not perfect by any means but they all do still roll. Four Bassick casters from an Industrial Salvage auction. They most likely came from a 1940s-1950s office/secretary's chair. They are. I believe, made of steel and the black rolling ball is some type of hard rubber. The diameter of the ball is about 1-3/4" the height of the caster(without the shaft) is about 2-1/8" and the shaft is 1-1/2" The manufacturer, Bassick, is imprinted on each ball. They show signs of use/wear but no serious dents or major dings. They all roll freely. One caster has an additional hardware piece attached to the shaft. They are all in need of a major clean up. Up for your consideration here we have a Used Set of 4 Bassick Model 499 Swivel Casters with grease points for the wheels and the swivel action that were removed from a large heavy Medical Yag Laser from the 1980s. The machine weighed 600+ pounds. The wheels are marked Bassick and T-4. We believe they are made from a very dense rubber from feel and all of these spin as they should. The swivel action moves smooth as well. With the hex bolts each of these caster's weight over 4 lbs each. So the set of 4 weights just under 17 lbs with the bolts. The wheels measure 4" in diameter and are 1.5" thick. The swivel frame of each caster has a zinc gold and are marked"Bassick 499" and#12481 on each.
