Vladimir Kagan Biomorphic Wood Tripod Dining Entry Table Travertine Mid Century
This auction is for an amazing walnut and travertine table by Vladimir Kagan. This table is spectacular. It has the quintessential Kagan base with a brass inlaid piece of travertine. The inlay is both in the middle and goes in a ring inset from the edge. The table is unmarked but we are pretty sure it was made by him. We have his book"The complete Kagan" and have included a picture of what we believe is the same table. Which coincidentally is the table he used in his batchelor pad, and one of another base so you can see the construction is the same. We believe the top would have been a custom addition. Even if this table was not made by him it is absolutely spectacular. The table has a piece of felted particle board between the top of the base and the marble. I believe in the picture of the table in the book you can see the shadow ... moreof the same. The top has a few little nips around the edge, there is a small pink spot but I believe you could polish that out and one of the legs has an oil stain at the base but all in all the table is in fantastic vintage condition. But all my research concludes that this is a Craft and Associates, Marble Platform Style Sofa possibly designed by Adrian Pearsall. Estimated 1950-1960 Very strong and sturdy construction having a wood frame with travertine marble floating end tables imported from Italy Condition is very good for a vintage piece. But it has very slight wear, a spot in the fabric, some scratches(see pictures) refinishing/reupholstering would make for quite an impressive sofa. The Ivory fabric has raised leaves with gold specks and is in very good condition but could use a cleaning and has a spot. In very good vintage condition. With wear commensurate with age. There does not appear to be any damage to the travertine tops. There is a slight stain difference that might either be a stain build up that has worn down or an attempted repair prior to our purchase.
