This is a fine. Late 19thC violin by Carl Meyer of Germany. It has a beautiful, rich tone, full of overtones- very open and very responsive– a real player's instrument! Little is known of Carl- the label simply shows the luthier's signature and the words"Voigtlandisches Fabrikat. No1603. Imported by Ball. Beavon and Co. London. The previous seller said the only information he had been able to discover was that Meyer was German, studied his craft in Paris and returned to Germany to practise it. It's only for sale due to a switch to playing a 5 string so is now surplus to requirements and looking for a good home. For the last three years it's been a faithful friend(if you're a player you'll know what I mean) and I'll be sorry to see it go but it's way too good to leave hanging on the wall when it could be ... moredelighting another player. One small. Old repair to a crack in the pegbox on the treble side. As can be seen in two of the photos it doesn't go right thru and it is perfectly stable. Otherwise remarkably good condition except for a corner chip and some playing-wear around the edges as shown. Gorgeous flamed maple back. With a very pretty double purfling and rosewood pegs. Included are a modern. Lightweight case and a good quality, wooden bow that came with the violin. Also a receipt from 1954 showing a sale price then of £40, nearly £900 in todays money. Currently set-up for Bluegrass/Jazz with dominant strings. Print was published in Germany in Meyer's Universum by Bibliographic Institute Hildburghausen. Glaspalast(Munich) The Glaspalast(Glass Palace) was a glass and iron exhibition building in Munich modeled after The Crystal Palace in London. The Glaspalast opened for the Erste Allgemeine Deutsche Industrieausstellung(First General German Industrial Exhibition) on July 15. 1854. Construction The Glaspalast was ordered by Maximilian II. King of Bavaria, built by MAN AG and designed by August von Voit, and hosted many large art exhibitions and international trade fairs. The two-storied building was 234 meters(768 ... moreft) long and 67 meters(220 ft) wide. The building's height measured 25 meters(82 ft) Construction was a mere six months. Beginning December 31, 1853 and ending June 7, 1854, during which time 37,000 windows were installed. The total cost of construction was 800,000 guldens. This mandolin has beautiful craftsmanship with mother of pearl accents. The mandolin was recently purchased at auction. Item is approximately 24" in length and 7 1/2" wide. It looks to be in very good condition. Some of the mother of pearl inlay is missing in a couple spots as shown in the photos. I cannot find any major damage or repairs. It has some minor scratches as shown in the photos. The wood is in great shape. The neck shows very little wear and is in great shape. Label is still attached to the inside. Graupner& Meyer. This was originally a 4M measuring 0.068" and Brian Powell refaced this to a 5M measuring 0.074" He left the original table intact. Opened it up and refined the finish work. As you can see it has some small marks on the right side of the biteplate. It has a low original baffle which didn't increase from opening it up. It has a warm core. I have some selected excerpts from the TW's Mouthpiece Museum that I think may best describe this piece: Meyer Brothers New York: The most sought after of the Meyer mouthpieces isthe Meyer Bros. New York model. These had a fat body and came in a small. Medium, and large chamber. The smallchambers were very bright, and the large chambers were very dark. Hence mostpeople played on the medium chambers. The large or small chambers are stillvery good playing mouthpieces though. The finish work on these was excellent.They had very rounded inner side walls and a small roll over baffle at the tip.The Meyer Brothers mouthpieces are also known for having a very good qualityhard rubber compound ... morethat produces a very rich sound" The experts distinguish this version or model from the more recent models in the following quote: The Meyer Bros. mouthpieces came in two vintages.The early version had the chamber size marked on the shank UNDER the table and includedthe word'chamber' For example it would say. Vintage 1930's Nach Meyer Style 9 Key Flute In Inlaid Wood Case
This is a wooden flute with nine keys. Or metal moving parts with round heads over holes. The 3 parts come in their original fitted case of inlaid wood. There are no markings on the flute or case. Experts tell us this is a typical"Nach Meyer" flute dating to the 1930's. Assembled. The flute is 26" long, not including the little tip on the removable end piece. The 1st part is 8 1/2" long and 1 1/4" at it's widest end. It has a 1/2" diameter hole and the removable end piece. The middle part is 8 3/4" long with 4 keys and 1" wide not counting the keys. It has three 1/4" holes. The end piece is 10 1/2" long and 1" at it's widest part. It has 5 keys, one handle is 5/8" longer than the piece. It has two 1/4" holes and a 3/16" hole. While the wood is black. I can see ... morea grain in the bright sun. There are some light scratches and scuffs on the wood. The silver tone metal keys have some wear in the finish. All of the hinged keys move easily, but the 2 on the very end do not close all the way down. The case is a beautiful grained wood with light wood inserts. It is lined in blue/gray velvet and measures 12 1/2" X 6 1/2" X 2 7.8" With the flute inside. It weighs 3 pounds 6.5 ounces. Sadly. Meyer Optik Oreston 50mm 1.8 lens for M42 mount. Works wonderfully with adapter for Nex. 4/3, or full size and/or APS-C dslr models. This is a classic German manufactured prime lens with outstanding optical qualities. Renders a somewhat 3D type photograph with classic feel and tremendous depth and color. Not many have this character attribute. This lens has been disassembled and cleaned. All glass has been polished and blades have been carefully cleaned and inspected. Aperture is very snappy and quick. Glass is very clean. Has a couple of very small"pecks" on the rear element. But you really can only see them under bright light and intense observation. May be a small bubble. Very tiny. No fungus. No oil. Aperture dial moves perfectly with definitive stops at each mark. Focus is very smooth with no tightness or ridged feeling. Body ... moreis very good. Overall great condition for a lens from the 1970s. Has pin to acctuate iris as well as a push-button on the side. Really a fun lens to use. Thanks!
