Working Pair of Antique UNION HARDWARE Co. BLOCK and TACKLE PULLEYS: Up for auction is an absolutely fantastic working pair of Antique/ Vintage Block and Tackle Pulleys. Both pulleys have the small metal identification plate(secured in the wood by 2 brass nails) centered on one side of the wooden frames bearing the company logo(shield) stamped into the plate as well as UNION HARDWARE CO. TORRINGTON. CONN. U.S.A. I enjoy researching companies and learning of their history and the Union Hardware company history is quite interesting. In brief. The company began in 1864 manufacturing iron, leather, wood products and tool as well as ice skates. In the early 1900's the company started producing steel fishing rods, followed by fishing reels and bamboo rods. As the company grew, an extensive line of tools, police goods, levels, athletic shoes ... moreand ice skates were being manufactured but in the early 1940's, the company discontinued its line of hardware to focus solely on its sporting goods items(roller skates, golf clubs, etc. It is an interesting story, the transition from hardware to sporting goods and I found much of the history on the company in documents from the Torrington Historical Society Both of these block and tackle pulleys are in very good condition given their age. The wooden frames are made of hard maple and the grains in the wood are fantastic. I've discovered many pulleys over the past few months and when I am out picking. I do not have the opportunity to take apart the pulleys to inspect the condition of the parts(sheaves and axle) within. There have been many times where I have brought pulleys home, taken them apart and found that the sheaves are rusted beyond repair and that is the reason why I take apart the pulleys and photograph them- I want you to be able to inspect the full condition of pulleys so you know exactly what you are bidding on. I also clean the pulleys inside and out while I have them taken apart. I dust and wipe down the inside and out of the wooden frames and I clean all

The main fabric in this quilt block is an INDIGO BLUE and WHITE CHECK HOMESPUN cotton fabric. It is stitched by hand very nicely as seen in the last pix. The condition is strong and sturdy. No loose seams. Spots, or stains. There are stitch marks all along the edges as seen in pix#7. The fabrics are crisp. One white patch has a seam.
