If the old slotted gib adjustment screws on your South Bend Lathe look like the bunged-up or broken screw in the photo above you are in luck. We now offer a complete set of 10 replacement fasteners for your convenience. The cross slide uses 5 adjustment screws and the compound uses 4 screws to control the linear motion of those coponents and it keeps the action nice an snug so that that there is no vibration or play in the feeds during turning. On older lathes. These screws are typcially damaged or broken over time as they were usually made of unhardened plain steel and the slotted head is easily broken if it is overtightened. A set of 10 will allow you to replace all of the fasteners and have one spare left over to keep in the drawer for future use. South Bend Lathe used an unusual size screw for this application(12-28 thread x 3/4" long with a slotted head and a flat point) so these are virtually impossible to find anywhere now days. We know this because we have been looking for some time) Luckily we have located a limited supply of these new"old stock" fasteners and are making them available to Southbend Lathe owners. This size was fairly universal after about 1939 but please check the thread size on your lathe prior to ordering. Up for bid is one vintage casting reel manufactured by South Bend. Style No. 350A. This reel is in very good condition. It measures 2-1/4" diameter, 3-5/16" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 2-1/2" long by 9/16" wide. Appears to have plastic handles. It has a clicker slide button on the rear plate and a drag control knob on the front plate. The crank side is engraved with"SOUTH BEND BAIT COMPANY, QUALITY TACKLE" and still on the front plate is engraved"No. 350A, LEVEL-WINDING, ANTI-BACK-LASH, MADE IN U.S.A. The metal is nickel plated brass, with some brass showing on the top rim of the front cover, one pillar, the bearing caps, and the foot. The reel is in good working condition. Our use of the word"multiple" means the lure has a combination of in excess of(10) blemishes. We counted 6-7 small nicks with a faint hook swing at the tail. General use blemishes include the following: Small hook nicks. Hook swings, scratches, hairline scratches, and light paint wear areas scattered throughout as seen below. There are scattered crazing lines as seen throughout. The hooks and hardware are fairly clean indicating minimal use. Any soiling is minimal. VINTAGE SOUTH BEND 359-9 FLAMED SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage refinished four piece South Bend 359- 9’split bamboo fly rod with original storage clothe. There is a South bend decal and a 359-9 inscription. The 359 model was considered South Bend’s”dry fly action” rod. All of the sections measure 37” I would estimate it would match nicely with a five weight fly line. The six inch Comficient cork handle is in good functional condition. There is South Bend lite lock reel seat with a cool looking ivory marbleized pyralin spacer. The mid and tip section have three snake eye guides. The stripper guide and wraps on the bottom section have been professionally retied. The wraps near the top of mid section and bottom of the two tips have also been newly wrapped. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled. Has the distinct“pop” ... moresound when removed and all sections are straight. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of spar varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. All lures in the Kieny collection by this maker were originally found in a partitioned Pflueger dealer box in the floor rafters of the basement in a house located in north Pittsburg. Pennsylvania PA. The house had been scheduled for demolition, and, fortunately for us collectors, these great fisherman made lures were salvaged. 4 Vtg Authentic No. 14N South Bend June Bug Spinner Fishing Lures Rigs On Cards
None have ever been used and all are on their original store cards. They are live bait trolling rigs. They were made in 1959 as indicated by the printing on the cards. Each has a 30 inch wire leader. Each of the cards have a handwritten retail price on them. Each card has some mildew-like marks on them and are slightly bent as the photos will show. None of the rigs have any rust or corrosion. Each of the spinner blades are polished brass and red on one side and just polished brass on the other with engraving-like designs. Although they are quite old. Here are 2 old lures that I hope someone could use or add to their collection. I think both are wood and are made by South Bend. Although neither are marked. The Nip-I-Diddee has some tackle box damage. Looks like a rubber worm melted on it but is otherwise undamaged. Box included. The Crippled Minnow has some damage and is missing an eye. South Bend Split Bamboo Rod#25? Sport Oreno. Complete rod including; Aluminum storage tube with stamped ends. Inside of each cap is tissue paper put in to protect the ends. Dark green cloth storage bag. One or two less than 1/4 holes/tears where the eyes laid against the bag. Excellent condition including near perfect label. Rod end with cork in excellent shape. The one big eye though got stuck in the bag while I was pulling it out and came off rod. Rest of hardware is in very good shape. Two tips both in great shape all eyes intact with surface oxidation on all due to the fact that they are a ferrous metal. Joint hardware all around in great shape. This pole was in my grandfather's shed for at least 50 years when he passed away in the early 2000's. This auction is for a matched pair of South Bend No. 20 Level Wind Bait Casting Reels with their original boxes. The reels and their boxes are in very nice shape. Both reels still look and work very well. The spools are free wheeling. The level winds and clickers work like new. The boxes have really nice vintage art work. They are as I found them some years ago. It is time for them to find a new home and free up some space. These reels were made in the USA and are stamped such on the bottoms. They are in nice used condition with normal scratches and blemishes for their age. See the pictures. High definition photos don't lie. The starting price is low and there is no reserve. South Bend#323 Bamboo Fly Rod 9' 0" Trout Action Bag& Tube South Bend#323. 9' 0" Line Recommended D-HDH(6) wt. Made in the USA. Sections are straight, Butt, Mid& Tips 36 5/8" and have a minor fishing set when assembled. All wraps, ferrules, guides, reel seat and cork there and in good condition. Has its rod bag and tube also in good condition. Here's a very nice South Bend Bamboo Fly Rod. I had to do a little work on this one. I cleaned, re-varnished and polished it, its ready for spring fishing, see pictures. I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it, it casts a HDH(6) as well as any I've cast and lays a line really well. Someone wanting to try a bamboo rod this would be a good one, I don't think it will sell for a fortune and its a solid fisher. There is something about catching fish on ... moresticks, once you try it its hard to go back! Fished or collected it will not disappoint!
