For Auction is a Vintage Montgomery Wards Powr Kraft Cast Iron Bench Grinder/Buffing/Polishing Head- Made in USA. The belt driven shaft is 1/2" diameter x 9" long. Two Powr Kraft 5" diameter x 3/4" wide grinding wheel are included. The shaft can be belt driven from below or from behind. This used vintage tool is in good condition and is fully functional. The casting. Original paint and the original product labels are in good condition. The mandrel shaft and bearings appear to be in good condition and turn smoothly but I did not run it at speed. Only one wheel guard is included- the other wheel guard and the tool rests are missing and I don't believe there were ever eye shields on this old grinder. Wood casting pattern for two belt grinder wheels. Wheels are 2 1/4 inch wide(will finish machine for a 2 inch belt)3 1/2 in. dia and 6 7/8 in. dia. Hub is large enough to fit a water pump bearing(Federal Mogul#885165-1) Pattern fits a 12x16 inch flask and has the pin guides. Pattern was made for and always cast w/ aluminum, a foundry will need to be consulted to use other materials. Wheels were designed to be idler wheels for a 2 inch belt belt grinder. They can be used with the big wheel as the drive wheel and the small wheel as idler. It would lack the rubber cover on the drive wheel but would make a low cost sander and if all the work was done on the belt between wheels(with a backup on the belt) you would never know the differance. The purchase of a pattern will pay for it self very quickly over the cost of solid aluminum wheels. Milwaukee, WI, USA. The base of this grinder head is heavy-duty cast iron and measures 7 1/4" H x 4" W(base) and weighs 5 lbs 11 oz. The base maintains its original battleship grey finish and has a gold and red manufacturer’s decal that reads"GENERAL HARDWARE CO, MILWAUKEE, WIS, USA" with"GENERAL" in large yellow font(see images) The interior of the base is embossed with"RL 200" see images) Each arm of the head has a flip top oil receptacle.
