Rovner Mark III Bb Clarinet Ligature FOCUSED sound, yet DARK! Next-level playing
This is one of my favorite ligatures- the Rovner Mark III! It does not completely clamp down on the reed. Like so many other non-metal ligatures, and it thus provides cleaner articulation, more easy response, greater projection, wider color variation, and CENTER! Its sound is a little more brilliant than the Rovner Dark, as a result of its carrying capacity. I find this to be the best of the Rovner models. Far better than the confused metal-material combination that is the Eddie Daniels/Vera ligature, yet more complex than their Dark/Light(and their newer models are really stretching- try them out if you don't believe me) This model is simple, yet elegant, classical, but effective. The material used is unlike that used by a vast majority of Rovner products today- it is more durable. Doesn't stretch as easily, and is, to my ears, a ... moredenser, darker material with which to play. There is a LITTLE bit of wear on the edges of the material- completely un-noticeable to the non-user. The metal is not tarnished. And has recently been lubricated, so the sound is not stuffy or dull. Also. Rovner has unfortunately been shipping their higher-end models with plates on the sides of the ligature. As any physicist will tell you, these are purely for cosmetic reasons, and the effect the vibration of the mouthpiece-reed-ligature combination. Given that they are not securely placed on the ligature, they give off parasitic vibrations that give a false impression to the performer. Given that I've removed them, the sound is darker, more fluid, and more representative of what is actually being produced.
