Other minor issues to note: there is a lamp out on the right VU meter which is an easy fix(see last dark picture) and there is some light tape residue on the top that can be cleaned of with some light cleaner- never bothered me so left it as is. I have NEVER had any problems with this device. I am the second owner and I baby my gear- used. But never abused. It runs hot so when it was not in use while in session it was switched off to save energy and cap life. Ventilation is a must. Also. Before I purchased it I had this piece tested and it passed an Audio Precision test only a few months back with flying colors. In addition to this test, I measured the harmonic distortion(THD) within channel before listing and each channel was well below Manley tested spec'd tolerances listed below. I am a audio engineer/technician in NYC. This is a very nice compressor/limit that sounds great on 2-bus duties or individual tracks in both mixing or tracking settings. Adds thickness and smoothness to tracks that need some more love. On the 2-bus I would tend to use the Vari-mu after a quicker VCA style compressor to add more"tone. For these duties I found it works best when I could just tap the compressor/limiter and the VU meter moves just slightly for 1-2 db of gain reduction. For tracking it really depended on the source but this box was extremely versatile. Just a really nice compressor- I will buy another someday soon but for now other gear needs funding. The meter does not appear to be working. At least I can't generate any meter movement with it plugged in and trying different input settings. The battery contacts inside have some corrosion(no battery present) that needs to be cleaned up, and the shielded box inside that houses the tube componentry needs to be remounted as a couple of the isolation bushings that hold it in place have disintegrated with age. Probably not a difficult repair, and the peanut tube(or tubes, I didn't look inside the shielded box so not sure if there is more than one) and microphone have value on their own. I am unfamiliar with this meter and do not know if it is working properly. It had no batteries in it and so I put 2 new 9 volt batteries in. Please see the photos of the meter; one with switch in battery position and the other with the switch in test position with the calibrator turned on. Calibrator makes a tone when turned on and meter does read the noise level. With the calibrator on the end of the mic the meter read just over 9 in the 100 db position. With the switch in the battery position it reads only just over 2. I have no instructions or manual for use. This is sold as is and complete with all items shown plus 2 new 9 volt batteries. Quest Electronics 211A/FS Sound Level Meter For sale- a Quest Electronics 211A/FS Sound Level Meter. Typically referred to as an SPL meter, plus the CA-12 Calibrator. The batteries in the SPL meter were a bit low. One of them so much so that I won’t be shipping it with the meter. I put fresh batteries in the CA-12 and as you can see with the 211A set on 110dB it almost reads 0 which would be the desired result. If I had to guess with a fresh set of batteries in the 211A it would probably be right on the money. I acquired this Type one meter from Thompson Audiology in Yakima Washington and it had been very well maintained but Jim has retired now and the new owners of the business told me that they were now using a Type 2 Quest 215 meter without a filter to do background noise studies prior to testing. This is a common misconception only a type one meter should be used to check an area before industrial hearing testing. This unit has a built in Octave Filter and has 200 Volt polarization required for some Microphones. The micro phone pictured is not polarized but is flat out to 19K hz.The calibrator included works but needs to be rewired to common 9 Volt battery. This is an integrating SLM with noise exposure feature with noise versus time exposure. Feel free to ask any questions about this meter.
