This auction is for a non working Geiger Counter Pancake Probe Element that has had it's mica membrane removed to show the internal parts of the probe. I'm unsure of the probe manufacturer as it wasn't one of the better known makers. Like Ludlum. It began with a K and had a butterfly logo. Some of the detail of the logo was lost when I attempted to clean off the back of the probe. Geiger Counter:1950's Cenco model 71230 Radiation Demonstrator: Tested, working!
Hi Folks! Up for your consideration today is a good. Working example of the Cenco(Central Scientific Company of Chicago) model 71230 Radiation Demonstrator. This was built for them by Tracerlab of Boston, and is their model SU4B radiation meter. This unit is serial number 483. Approximate date of manufacture is 1950. This unit has one aural and two visual indicators: A built in speaker that gives clicks when a count is made. A neon light that flashes, and a meter movement that shows approximate counts per minute. The unit works. And has been repaired by me: When I got it, the original fragile thin glass Geiger-Mueller was broken, rendering the unit inoperative. I replaced this with a 6993 tube from a CVD-700 Radiation Survey Meter. And potted it into the original GM tube socket. The 6993. As with the original tube, is capable of measuring ... moreGamma rays and strong Beta radiation. To measure Beta, you loosen the two front panel bakelite nuts and remove the aluminum shield over the G-M tube. One other note is that the high voltage is adjustable. And(CAUTION! the G-M tube is elevated above ground potential(so don't touch the GM tube with the unit running! You need to crank the B+ to about 1,350 volts to make the unit work. With a measured 440 volts on the shell of the G-M tube, that translates to about 910 real volts which is about right to make it work. I replaced several paper foil caps back in 2001. With the exception of the 0B2. All of the tubes were tested for performance and shorts on my TV-7 military transconductance type tube tester, and the results are as follows: 1X2: 74/40 minimum. 117L7: 83/50 min. 62/40 min. 2 section tube. 12AU7: 92/56 min. 89/56 min. 2 section tube. 12AW6: 36/20 min. 0B2: 108.8 volts measured in circuit. I tested the unit for function with a half pound block of Pitchblende(sorry. Not included, NFS! As you can see, I had no problem pinning the meter or making the neon light glow! This is a radio luminescent lamp. It glows a nice green color. And compared to most i've seen it's quite bright. It registers a few hundred CPM on my Ludlum model 3. These items are exceedingly rare, and hard to find. This one is quite large measuring 6mm in diameter and 63mm long. This item may interest people doing high voltage or plasma experiments as well as tube collectors. I have lots of laser and other unique stuff for sale this week.

Technical Associates Pug 1AB. Geiger Counter With End Window Detector
Included in the sale is a PDF version of the Manual Technical Associates has been manufacturing radiation detection equipment since before the Manhattan project. This unit is from the'80s- 90s. It is one of my favorites due to the unmistakable audio signal from the 3" speaker. The circuitry is relatively simple and this version has 4 ranges from X 1 to X1000. The highest range is very useful for employing more sensitive scintillation probes. I believe these originally came with lollipop probes with 2" pancake tubes. This one has an end window probe that was originally part of a military unit. It is an end window tube so the counter is still able to detect Alpha as well as Beta and Gamma. One photo shows it responding to a radioactive lantern mantle. This will be included in the sale. Please note that in that photo the Pug is ... moreset on the X10 range. This gives a idea of the sensitivity. This unit is great as is for identifying radioactivity but if it is to be used professionally it should be professionally calibrated. PS. Xetex 501A Radiation Monitor/ Geiger Counter/ Alarming Ratmeter
This is an alarming Ratemeter with an incredible range. The digital display reads in kilo counts per minute and the range setting goes from X 10 to X99. Each count is registered with a flash of the'count' LED until the readout reaches the setting at which time the alarm sounds. In the photo the alarm is set at 10 X 1 kilo count per minute or 10.000 cpm. Due to the versatility and great range, a large variety of detectors can be used. I am supplying this with a Geiger mueller probe sensitive to beta and gamma radiation. It could also support scintillation detectors. CDV-700 Geiger Counter replacement 0-50 uA meter movements! Tested, working!
Hi Folks! I’m working my way through my parts stash and am happy to report that I’ve found two more CDV-700 radiation survey meter(Geiger counter) 0-50 uA meter movements. Now you can replace your dead meter and have a spare as well! They were removed from working Lionel CDV-700 6B’s that were being upgraded. They are the exact replacements for the Lionel 6B. ENI, and Victoreen 6, 6A, 6B. The meter movements work. And have been checked by two separate processes to make sure they don’t stick. One reads about 49 uA full scale, the other about 50 uA. Spec is 50 uA +/5 uA, so they are both well within specs. In fact, they are almost dead nuts on! The Simpson 260 is not part of the auction. It is used to show the current draw of the meters. These movements are in reasonably good shape: One has minor scuff marks on the front. The other has some ... moredeeper scratches. Both meters have minor stress fractures around the mounting holes on the front of the meters. The plastic is clear and not darkened. Check out the pictures! I will give you a three day inspection guarantee on the meter movements. You can see that the meters are definitely not the typical Ebay pig in a poke. And that they have value and promise.
