Lionel Operating Gantry Crane 6-2316 Norfolk and Western
Up for auction is a Lionel Operating Gantry Crane 6-2316 themed as"Norfolk and Western 2316" When I found this the boom was stuck all the way up and would not budge. One gear had two teeth missing, the drive belts were completely spent, soldered power lead on one motor was broken off, and the original grease was hard and sticky. What did I do you may ask? Well, I completely disassembled it, cleaned out all the old grease, ordered new drive belts and a replacement gear then installed belts and gear and soldered broken connection with solderless electrical glue. I then re-greased all the gears and reassembled everything. I applied power and everything worked. Crane revolves 360 degrees in both directions and hook goes up and down when operated with controller. The manual boom goes up and down as well. A few things you should know: ... moreThe is 30+ years old and the motors run good but are a bit noisy. Do not rotate this crane the full 360 degrees while the boom is in the full upright position and do not rotate a complete 360 degrees more than two revolutions. Go 360 then back 360 and you will have no problems. Do not try to lift anything that weighs more than 2 ounces on a continual basis. If you want a heavy work crane buy a new one. Leave this one for light duty only. Great piece that was brought back to life with a little TLC. The box is solid but there are water stains apparent. Was probably in a flooded basement but not the crane which shows no sign of water damage. Auction is"AS IS" no returns or refunds. Buyer pays actual shipping costs depending on location. Here is kind of a unique item that I got when I bought out a complete machine shop. This was the gantry crane that the shop used. I'm not sure. But they may have made it themselves because of the low ceilings in their shop. They certainly had the capability to make it. There is one part missing. The I-beam top. It was stored outside and unfortunately was stolen, probably by scrap thieves. So once the buyer decides on what length they need they will have a heavy duty gantry crane. The wheels are cast iron 6" X 2" made in India with 2 grease fittings. My research shows this type is usually rated for 1200 lbs. each. The bottom plate is 6" x 3/8" thick x 60" long. The angle iron is 2 7/16" x 2 ... more7/16" maybe it's 2 1/2" x 1/4" thick. The tube is 4" diameter with 3/16" wall. It has holes for the 3/4" diameter pins. There are 7 holes on 6" centers. The overall height of the A-frame is 65 7/8" The overall lengths of the mating part is 84" With the position of the holes I figure the range to be 86-1/2" to 116-1/2" The wheels of course will add to the height. I have more pictures but am limited to 12 here. We could figure a way to get them to you. If my research is right a crane of this strength would go for $2000- $3000. But you'll have to get your top beam. So we'll give a deal and go out at $1250.00 You'll either have to pick this up or contact me for freight. 14' 4 post Gantry crane, hoist clear span with Loadmate chain hoist
14' 4 post Gantry with a clear clear span and 12 foot travel distance. Trying to get someone to get me the actual capacity for the gantry. Since the hoist is a 1/2 ton the stickers on it say 1/2 ton but it is way too solid and big for that. I would estimate at least 1-2 tons maybe more but I'm not a structural engineer. If I can get an answer from the old certification company i will post here. The hoist is a 2002 Loadmate LM 05 460V 3 phase according to the tag. Power up-down and beam travel. Here I have this vintage Tyco made in W. Germany Gantry Crane Ho Scale Plastic Model Kit#7777 from 1975. It is complete and all but a couple of parts are still on the sprue trees. You will get all that you see in the third picture and the other pictures are close ups. All of the parts are in like new condition. The box is in excellent condition.
