Restored Copper Brass Allweather Fire Extinguisher with hose, Rare Model A
Here's a professionally restored Allweather Model A fire extinguisher. Manufactured by the Foam Childs Corporation, Manufacturers and Engineers, of Utica, New York. This Allweather has a patent date of 7-11-22, or July 7, 1922. The canister is copper, with the old rivet peening of the Sure Sweat Seam Sweat Seam; there are two brass labels and the top steel or cast iron handle is much larger than most. Both copper and brass have been restored. Along with the hose hardware. The steel handle has also been cleaned of rust and lacquered, to protect it from future rust. The base handle is missing and the red outer wrap of the hose has flaked away at the top portion. The metal has been beautifully restored. However, the copper shows use and age: there's etching- mainly at the base, behind the handle and adjacent to the seam. The etching ... moreshould be clearly depicted. The Allweather Model A is somewhat larger than the customary extinguishers of the period. It stands 24.5 inches and the rear side handle is 4.5 inches wide. The cast iron cap has a 6.5 diameter. This top cap handle has been restored to a beautiful fire engine red color. The extinguisher has also been professionally lacquered and with basic dusting and an occasional soap. Rinse and dry, will retain this beautiful finish for 20 to 30 years. The original extinguisher hose hardware and nozzle have also been restored. Also. It stood as a guarantee to fire brigades that the insurance company insuring the house would reward ... morehandsomely those extinguishing a blaze. Many of the early volunteer fire companies/fire houses/hose battalions/brigades. And later, the municipal fire departments would issue their own fire plaques/marks. While the the most common ones were based on the Maltese Cross Design, several fire companies based their plaques on the designs of fire marks that had been issued by various insurances. The Valiant Hose No. 2 mark has an image on it. Based on the Currier and Ives print"Rushing to the Conflict" This mark measures approximately 5.5" X 10.25" is of cast iron construction and was cast by the well know Virginia Metalcrafters. The mark has a rough rustic surface which gives it a nice vintage look to it. The upper mounting hole is blocked. It comes with a display stand. This is a really nice item and would make an excellent addition for any collector of fire marks. Fire at British Moulded Hose Co. Watford June 1961 6 stereoviews
A stunning set of six colour stereoscopic slides(Realist format) showing the fire at the British Moulded Hose Company. Watford June 1961. There are excellent original photographs taken by an amateur stereoscopic photographer. Wonderful street scenes and dramatic close up images of the building ablaze. Police. Crowds in the streets, school children leaning on the railings to get a better look. These are undoubtedly a unique set of images which will copy well. While the images are stereoscopic(two side by side transparencies) they can be viewed and copied like regular photographs as well. These will never be on the market again! The smoke was the blackest black I had ever seen before, and a big cheer would go up as flames would suddenly shoot straight up through the smoke and into the sky. By the time the afternoon had past the firework display had dampened down somewhat, but it was still worth a visit to the site to see all the activities. It was remarked that the building did not fall because of the high quality of the brickwork, and it was rumoured that the demolition men who eventually knocked it down paid BMH to do the job and keep the bricks! What was the cause? It was one of those conspiracy theory jobs. The works were going through one of their slumps, and rumours circulated that we were to close, the works manager denied it, but the fire did happen at lunchtime when nobody was working in the area that it started. Or did the hot sunlight catch on one of the hessian wrapped bales of hose in that area? An enquiry concluded that it was an accident. It was a testament to the workforce and firefighters that the factory began production again within 7 days of the fire

This is a used vintage 2-1/2 inch fire hose marked American LaFrance and dated 2-65. It has heavy brass ends which you never see anymore. It came from a fire dept. auction of surplus back in 1994. It's amazing what you can find in the warehouse when you have to move after being in the same place for 25 years! I roughly measured it at approximately 50 feet long. Perfect for your old Firetruck or other emergency vehicle. It doubt it's still useable and I have not checked it and have no way to test it. Probably best for just display on your restored older fire truck. It's is old and not new so it may have some wear and tear and some minor faults. But it looks nice. Antique Vintage 30 in Fire Hose Underwriter’s Playpipe 1.75 inch Nozzle With Tip
These tapered pipes were used on the ends of fire hose so the fire personnel could better hold the hose and direct(play) the water. With development of smaller adjustable nozzles. The playpipes were then used primarily to test water supplies, as their tapered shape produces a laminar waterflow that allows a direct gallon per minute flow measurement using a pitot tube. This playpipe is corded with red marlin(water resistant coated twine) The marlin is faded and has lost almost all the red color and is now a light gray. The cord is in fair to good condition with ten small abraded spots but the cord is not cut all the way through. No unravel. The picture shows an abraded spot. Good threads, no dents. Up for auction is a chrome Akron playpipe with a Turbojet nozzle. The playpipe inlet is 2.5" NH NS NST(national standard fire hose thread) and the discharge plus turbojet fog nozzle is 1.5" NH NS NST. The Turbojet adjusts from 120 to 250 GPM then flush. The closed valve did not leak when I blew air into it. The valve handle will stay up and is not loose like some of the other playpipes that are on eBay. I have sold about a half dozen of these and all the handles including this one have had cracks in them but they still hold the nozzle firmly. This is the last one I have. The teeth still spin and it is only missing one tooth. This one has scratches from normal use. Also. It stood as a guarantee to fire brigades that the insurance company insuring the house would reward handsomely ... morethose extinguishing a blaze. The Eagle Fire Mark was adopted in 1796 when INA changed from it's original(1792) symbol which was a six pointed star. The original Eagle Fire Mark was made of lead and was mounted on an oval wooden board with a widely beveled edge. Many of the early volunteer fire companies/fire houses/hose battalions/brigades. And later, the municipal fire departments would issue their own fire plaques/marks. While the the most common design was based on the Maltese Cross Design, several fire companies based their plaques on the designs of the various fire marks that had been issued. This Eagle Hose No. 2 Mark measures approximately 8.5" X 11.0" and is of cast iron construction weighing nearly 5 lbs. The mark is is black in color with a gold eagle and lettering. This mark is in really good condition with good paint. This is a really nice item and would make an excellent addition for any collector of fire marks.
