Daniel C. Larkin was an engineer with the Cleveland. Cincinnati, Chicago& St. Louis Railroad. He retired from them in 1875. In 1880, he was named the Dayton Fire Chief, a position he held until ... more1907. He had 12 children but one of his sons, Maurice D. Larkin, graduated from college in 1898 and at the age of 22 returned home and began the Larkin Manufacturing Company- Building on knowledge from his father and also by being around the fire department all of his life, he began this company making fire department supplies- Later in 1907, Maurice organized the M.D. Larkin Supply Company which is still in business today in some capacity. For sale is a Phister model 1B fire extinguisher in excellent unrestored condition. The cylinder is perfect without any dings at all and only few small scratches. The pump works fine and even the hose is in fairly good shape. With a few cracks on the bend. There is some rust on the steel parts and the label could use a little cleaning, but all in all it is a nice piece for your collection. It will weigh about 25 pounds packed. This is a very nice vintage Fire Extinguisher. It was manufactured by the General Detroit Corp. of Michigan. It is a model A-909. The label reads"GENERAL QUICK AID.FIRE GUARD" It is a pump type extinguisher with a SAFETY PHILARE PUMP. It measures 26" tall by 9 1/2" in diameter. It has a capacity of 5 gallons. The extinguisher is completely EMPTY of its original Antifreeze extinguishing agent. The main body is made of Copper and the label is Brass. It comes with a carry handle. What I can say about it is that it is a 17-inch. 1 1/2 quart, genuine brass, vintage fire extinguisher made by a company called GENERAL and it still has the inspection tag around the neck. Although it is torn and barely legible. It is attached to it's mounting bracket and is in great condition other than some oxidation and scrapes on the exterior of the extinguisher and some rust on the mounting bracket.
