This is to illustrate how you can build an awesome lab or show laser from your own parts. I was not happy with the heat sinking ability of the little Chinese modules available out there. They use a press in diode mount that does nothing for the other side of the diode. I used two back to back press in diode holders and indium foil. That and more copper plates and a one inch fan. This little monster is more efficient than I thought. After testing for 5 minutes it remained cool to the touch even without the fan! In the first pic I did ad a little smoke as it was taken in daylight. The other pic shows it without the smoke. These are ridiculously powerful and hot! I do NOT recommend building a"pointer" from these. They ... moreare just too dangerous. Even a reflection off a window will bounce 8% of the beam back at you. 4% for each side of the glass. To clarify. At 2 watts that would be 160mw. Enough to blind you quick! Great for light show projectors and lab style lasers. This auction is for one 2 watt + laser diode w/shorting block for esd protection and the lens pulled from the same projector only. They will be shipped in an anti-static bag and foam cushioning. The projector these came from had about 600 hours on it. That leaves around 19.400 hrs left on the diode. The photo through my microscope shows the identifying emblem for the 2 watt lasers on the case. The 2 Watts have a circle above the square where the 1 Watts do not. By bidding you are certifying that you are a minimum of 18 years old. You are responsible for the proper legal and safe use and handling of this device. I recommend you use a driver circuit that has esd protection such as a"lasorb" device and soft start. They require around 5VDC@ 1.8 A max. Great condition. Extracted from a M250 projector with low hours! Same diode as the M140 and better then the A140! You must use a"constant current" power source like a current limiting driver and a heatsink to cool these! Do not hook these straight to a battery they will led and die! Do not over heat the diode its a good idea to press these into a module before soldering and then dont over heat the diode! A low temp iron is best to use under 20w and let the diode cool between legs! 445nm 2W to 2.5 W 5.6mm blue laser diode extracted from Casio XJ projector
High power 2W to 2.5W 445nm laser diode pull from Casio XJ Series projector. This projector was a store return with unknown hours as the fans would not operate so it would not light up. The laser diodes are fine and are testing strong. The laser in picture is doing 1.25 watts. this laser is not for sale and is to illustrate what you can build with a little imagination and spare parts) There is a little smoke in pic to show off beam as it was shot in daytime. Each of these diodes has been tested for a few seconds in my rather crude but effective diode test jig(seen in pic) made from a modified diode array assembly from a projector. My jig clamps both sides of the diode flange for maximum heat dissipation and I am using a Lasorb anti ESD/surge device to assure your diode has been tested safely. I take them up to about 1.5 watt in testing. I ... moremake sure they all perform well at a set current. These were removed by me carefully with anti-static mat. Wrist strap and esd safe desoldering iron. These are ready to be installed. The terminals have been cleaned of excess solder so you can plug it right into a socket, or solder the leads with the bit of tinning solder that remains. I do NOT recommend installing this is one of those"press in" style mounts. even if it is copper. Get one that has a screw down mount that provides heat transfer to both sides of the diode flange. These run real hot. Those press in mounts work. But you may lose half the life of your diode from inadequate heat sinking. This is why some sellers of these say it has a"duty cycle" of a few seconds as they don't want to be responsible for your diodes death. I have had many people ask me about this style mount. I have added a picture of typical ones found on eBay. Just do a search on laser diode mounts. Get one that that is threaded for an M9 0.5 lens that you can buy separately on ebay.
