Thanks. This IR lens is slightly convex on one side. And to my eye, slightly aspheric. The other side looks to be parabolic concave, with a focal length of 3 feet. I believe it would slightly diverge IR coming through it. It looks like germanium. But the measurements do not support this. I measured the thickness with a micrometer halfway between the center and edge. And got.197 thousandths of an inch or.50038 cm. The diameter is 2.3 inches or 5.84 cm. I did the math, and if this were pure germanium it should weigh 71.3 grams. Actual weight is 63.2. Far too heavy to be silicon, but low for germanium. It must be an alloy. It is a bit radioactive. Showing an average of 50 CPM on my CDV 700. This counter registers zero alpha, and about half of beta. Thorium is the most likely contributor to the count. This could be the optical coating, or could ... morebe part of the alloy. I cannot promise the composition of this item. I can only say that it's density is close to 4.72. While germanium is 5.323. I would consider this item to be in good to very good condition. Please examine the photos and message me if you need further details. The fine scratches and defects I can see only under bright sunlight. There are edge chips visible in the photos. And the optical coating does not quite reach the edges. I expect the item would function well optically. I am selling it as is. But you will have 14 days to evaluate it and returns will be accepted. It is a nice piece. It is not perfect. But usable.
