1873 Coleman, N.Y. Brass Water Pump w Pump Jack
Here we have an early two cylinder water pump that is similar to early hand operated pumps but this one is adapted to be run by a flat belt driven pump jack. It was all mounted on the remains of green painted skids. But they crumbled to dirt when I went to move it out of the barn where I found it. The pump was apart when I found it, but it looks to be complete, but it may need valves, which were probably nothing more than leather pieces. The upper part of the pump has"J. Coleman& Co. Centre St. N.Y. embossed in it on one side and"E.T. Coleman Pat. June 17, 1873" on the other side and is made of brass underneath the green paint, the two cylinders are also brass, the base is cast iron. One leg has the toe broken at the tip as you can see in one of the pictures, otherwise there are no other cracks, breaks, or welds on it. ... moreWith a good cleaning, new wood underneath it, and some tinkering this would be a super pump to run with a little engine, lots of moving parts on this one!
