Ron Guth: In1942. The war effort required large amounts of nickel for munitions and material. To help with this effort, the mint reduced the amount of nickel used in the Jefferson Five Cents and replaced it with silver. Thus, beginning in 1942, the composition of the"Nickel" went from 75% copper and 25% nickel to 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese. This resulted in a"Nickel" of a slightly brighter color. To differentiate the new alloy. The mint placed a large mintmark on the back of the coin, and began using a large letter P for Philadelphia, a D for Denver, and an S for San Francisco. PCGS-Certified Jefferson Nickel: 1947-D in MS65 Near 5 Steps (No FS on Label)
This listing is for a nice Jefferson nickel from the Denver Mint in 1947 that is certified by PCGS as a MS-65 gem without a Full Steps(FS) designation. Although the coins come about as close as you can get without"being there" While PCGS decided they don't meet the technical requirements for a FS designation, these coins come WAY closer than most. Five steps are visible on all of these coins, and there are several of them that I would call FS if I were labeling them myself for sale. In most cases, they failed only because they might be a touch soft in one teeny spot, or more often because of a light contact mark or two on the steps that breaks the step continuity. Steps aside. These coins all have a pretty nice strike, have pristine surfaces, and have exceptionally nice luster. They're all choice, if not exceptional, for ... morethe grade. Since this coin doubles in value with full steps over what a"typical" coin is worth, I'm asking a small premium for them. They're worth it on quality alone. Ron Guth: In1942. The war effort required large amounts of nickel for munitions and material. To help with this effort, the mint reduced the amount of nickel used in the Jefferson Five Cents and replaced it with silver. Thus, beginning in 1942, the composition of the"Nickel" went from 75% copper and 25% nickel to 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese. This resulted in a"Nickel" of a slightly brighter color. To differentiate the new alloy. The mint placed a large mintmark on the back of the coin, and began using a large letter P for Philadelphia, a D for Denver, and an S for San Francisco. Vintage WW II Era Military Army Patch Collection Lot of 5 STRATCOM Freedom Steps
VINTAGE MILITARY PATCHES You are bidding on a lot of 5 vintage Military patches. Some of the patches are WW II era. I am not sure if they are original or reproduction. Included are the Rainbow Restore Freedom Patch. The US Army STRATCOM globe patch, and the US Army WW II Seven Steps to Hell Pyramid of Power Patch. I have not identified the other two patches. The patches measure 4"x2" 2"x 2 1/2" 2"x3" 2 1/2"x 3 1/4" and 2"x3" They are in good vintage condition and three appear to have never been sewn. One is a little dirty. One has a little glue or paint on one side, and two have loose threads, as if they may have been sewn. Nice patches for your collection or display!
