Kidd Youren, the newest member of the Helfrich Family, has been working for Helfrich River Outfitters since 2010. He spends his summers running a drift boat, fishing or running the big sweep boat on the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho where he runs ahead of the group each day to set up camp and prepare for the customers to arrive. In the fall, Kidd works as a steelhead-fishing guide, running a drift boat on the wild and scenic Rogue River.

 

Kidd is also the star of a new reality TV show on truTV called Way Out West.  The show features three prominent outfitting families in Idaho.  The show is full of shenanigans and laughs as the three families compete and play. Way Out West Website

 

Kidd is a fifth generation Idahoan, born in Garden Valley Idaho where his family was the first white settlers and cattlemen. Generations of the Youren Family have run cattle from Garden Valley and Horseshoe Bend, up into Bear Valley along the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon. As a child, Kidd joined his family, starting the day after he was born, in the secluded meadows of Bear Valley along the road into the Middle Fork where they were running cattle in the summers. 

Growing up, Kidd lived with his family in Idaho, Nevada, and British Columbia. He worked on the family ranch and worked along side his dad on outfitted hunting trips. Growing up on a ranch, Kidd became very interested in Rodeo and he started competing at a young age. After graduating from high school in Fernie British Columbia and winning the Alberta High School Rodeo Finals for team roping, Kidd moved back to Idaho and began working towards buying his own outfitting company. As the son of an outfitter, Kidd grew up hunting and working with his dad on a daily basis, starting his guiding career at a very young age. In 2007 Kidd bought his own hunting area on the Boise River in Idaho where he works as a hound-hunting outfitter for bear and cougar. Kidd also outfits trips for aoudad for west Texas.

 

Kidd is the newest member of the Helfrich family! He and Kelsey Helfrich got married September of 2013 and are loving their new life together.
