VINTAGE 8 ½” ACHROMATIC TELESCOPE OBJECTIVE LENS
This is an early 8.5” clear aperture achromatic telescope objective lens. The focal length is 58” f/6.7) and it may have been originally used in a comet hunting telescope. The lens is not coated. As would be expected, and there are a few light scratches on the front element. The lens is air spaced and appears to have three small sections of a postage stamp inserted between the elements as spacers. I purchased the lens several years ago where it had been stored in the attic of an old house in New Jersey. I have not mounted or tested the lens. But it appears to have been of quality manufacture. The objective is adjustable and by rotating the double ribbed band it can be altered from 4 to 6IN. Cosmetically the objective and case are in outstanding condition with no wear to the brass. Optically there a couple of tiny bubbles visible in the front element, they are hardly noticeable, nonetheless it would be remiss of me not to mention this.
