The Shipwrecked Norwegian Barque Artensis- Artensis that came ashore on the Seaside Park Beach on the New Jersey coast on July 8th. 1916 in thick fog. Her crew had painted a red, white and blue flag on her hull to show marauding German subs and surface raiders that she was a neutral vessel. The steel-hulled bark sustained little damage and was towed off the bar 10 days later and returned to the sea. It's interesting to note that the crew was too superstitious to return on board. So a substitute crew was hired from New York to take her back out. Note the off-shore salvage vessel bottom left. Quite a view. Set of 8 original pochoir prints from La Gazette du Bon Ton. Prints are in excellent condition. Framed in a mahogany bamboo frame with taupe outer mat and bordeaux inner mat, both paper mats. Frame can be seen in last photo. The auction is for all eight prints, set will not be broken up. I am happy to email additional photos with more detail, ebay only allows twelve photos.
