Old Brass D.T. Williams Swingtop Hit and Miss Gas Engine Steam Tractor Oiler
This is a pretty nice D.T. Williams Topaz swingtop oiler. It has cracked glass which is available from several of the hobby suppliers rather inexpensively. no check ball or vent tube. The filler cover is intact, threads are good, and the hexes are a bit rounded. It measures about 7" long, about 3-3/8" in diameter, and the pipe thread is 1/2" If this is what you've been needing, don't take a chance and pass it up! The diameter of the face is 4 ½ inches and the screw on bezel is 5 5/8 inches in diameter. The mounting flange is 5 ¾ inches in diameter. The depth of the case is 2 1/8 inches. The pipe size is ¼ NPT. The rack and pinon is in good condition and has been cleaned and oiled. It has the normal pits. Scratches and nicks associated with steam related items as shown in the attached pictures. The case is cast Navy bronze. It works well and checks out at 100 PSI. It is mounted on a walnut base with a stone support under the engine. When we roll the big wheel this works so smoothly. It makes such a nice display that we could just not resist it at the sale we saw it at and just knew that we wanted to offer it to you all here in eBay land. With the base it measures approx. 16" x 11" x 10 1/2" and is very heavy. A beam engine is a type of steam engine where a pivoted overhead beam is used to apply the force from a vertical piston to a vertical connecting rod. This configuration. With the engine directly driving a pump, was first used by Thomas Newcomen around 1705 to remove water from mines in Cornwall. Those ominous looking towers are called"Dental Engines" or"Dental Operating Units" or even"Unit Equipment" It Still Works! The unit has been'Meter Tested' Suicide Mission Tested' with genuine electricity. It dimmed a lamp quite well. A Wiring Diagram Of This Switch Portion Will Be Sent With The Unit It will show you what connects to what inside the unit and at the end of the cord.
