This is a sailboat mast or spar pole mount. It is made of brass. We found this in a scrap yard here in Washington. Someone cut it off not realizing there was a threaded screw inside. See pics. It is cut but just enough to make the brass shiney. Still would be great for reuse. The threaded part measures 3+3/8 inches long and fits a 1+7/8 inch diameter pole. Antique vintage leather sheath with sailor's rigging knife & marlin spike 1930s
Old antique sailor's sheath with a rigging knife and marlin spike. Believed to be circa 1930s, well used and worn. Closed measures 5 3/4 inches long. Contains one old flat-tipped rigging knife, measuring closed about 4 inches long, and one marlin spike at about 4. 5 inches long. The leather sheath has some fancy knotted rope work, and the marlin spike is attached to the sheath. The leather has a tear on the piece with the snap closure, and shows wear and dirt all over. The knife is rusty and dirty, as is the marlin spike. Well used, as found in an old barn. I'm told the flat tipped knife is so it can be easily hit with a mallet to cut thick rope, and the marlin spike is used to open up tightened knots and when splicing lines used in sail making and repair. I got as part of some very heavy duty table legs that held up a bowling lane table top. I am a welder and once I set the table up I will end up welding the legs together. There are 32 clamps all in great shape they were stored indoors and still have a nice galvanized finish. I did some research on what they are used for and chances are if your looking at this you know they can be used for stage/theater rigging and scaffolding. They fit 1 1/2" schedule 40 pipe. Here. We have a STUNNING model ship, most likely an American Whaler from around the 1840s. There is no maker's mark or name present on the piece. The body is made of wood, as are the sails, which are delicately carved. The ship has an intricate rigging system, and there is a small break in one of them, which could be easily remedied. The final photograph shows this clearly. There are all sorts of wonderful details in the interior of the ship, well preserved. Overall, this piece is structurally sound, but there is some age-appropriate patina, such as some bubbling and cracks in the paint. This is a gorgeous find, as-is, or a wonderful piece for refinishing for any collector or reseller of this sort.
