Even though it's small this solid steel block measures 8 inches from the very tip top to the bottom of the sheave. The main part of the block without the hook, the part that hooks to a strap) measures 6 inches. The sheave measures 4 inch across, the outside edge to outside edge of the sheave measures 1-1/2 inches, and the sheave has a 1 inch"V" for cable or rope or? See the photos for the measurements. This chunk of steel weighs nearly 9-1/2 pounds. I could not find a Skookum number on it anywhere but the closest match from the Skookum catalogs is a Skookum A-4, SWL-5T with a max rating of 5 tons. recent estate find: found with a collection of antique sailing parts. this is a wooden block with metal pieces(pin. Chain, bolts, etc) no markings 12" long not exactly sure what it's used for. but it looks complete and in excellent original condition. the gentleman who owned this said it belonged to HIS grandfather. Who he said fought in WWI, so I'm guessing this is slightly later, 1920s or 30s most likely

THIS DEVICE HAS A PARTICULAR NAME BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER IT AND IT HAS A SPRING LOADED MECHANISM INSIDE TO WORK SAILBOAT LINES IN THE RIGGING. WILCOX& CRITTENDEN WAS FOUNDED IN MIDDLETOWN. CONNECTICUT WHEN IT WAS THE LARGEST INLAND PORT IN NEW ENGLAND CIRCA 1847. THIS CAME WITH THE OTHER SIMILAR DEVICE I HAVE ON LINE THIS WEEK BUT IS NOY MARKED THE SAME. THE ITEM MEASURES ABOUT 2 1/8" TALL X 2 1/8" ACROSS AT BASE AND IS VERY HEAVY DUTY. VERY GOOD CONDITION,OPERATING VERY NICELY AND WOULD BE GREAT FOR ANTIQUE/VINTAGE MARITIME COLLECTOR, EARLY NEW ENGLAND MANUFACTURING COLLECTION, OR TO USE.
