So when you look at the pictures you have to ignore the shiny or yellow chains. that's just how we got it up there in the rafters! This is a great classic"2T" chain hoist. Manufactured in"HAGERSTOWN, MD. by the"H. C. FOLTZ COMPANY" some time post-1890 when the company took that name. Nowadays the company is called Foltz Manufacturing& Supply Company, and are still located in Hagerstown. Nice company history on their website. Raised lettering on the faces of the chain cogs also declares: PATENT APPLIED FOR. AND"H. C. FOLTZ HAGERSTOWN MD. It works with a loop of chain passing through an 11 1/2" chain cog, which transfers the lift through spur gears to a 6 1/2" chain cog which moves the larger gauge lift chain along. This is a manual direct differential hoist which means you get mechanical advantage from the difference in circumference of the top chain pulleys. The differential on this is about 15:1 and the mechanical advantage is double that so 30:1. To lift 1000 lbs you need to pull with about 33 lbs of force. To get an inch of lift. You need to pull about 30 inches of chain. Shows less than normal signs of age and use(it has a little rust. But, nothing damaging) Stored in a"clean" and dry storage bin.
