This snare drum was purchased at a yard sale and the last owner told us that they had purchased the drum for their son to play in his high school marching band. This drum hasn't been played in a quite sometime ans has been sitting up in the case. Since there was no drum lug key with this drum, we had no way to remove the ring to measure the inside dimensions of the drum. So I measured the diameter of the drum from the edge of the top ring on one side of the drum's head to the opposite side of the playing head. I measured the width of the drum by measuring the wideness of the side of the drum from the bottom edge to the top edge. The diameter of the drum is 14 inches. The width of the drum is approximately 5 inches wide. The black rubber practice pad does has some minor wear to the edges of the pad such as small cracks/tears forming on the outer edges of the pad. Last two photos show a separation of the laminate wrap on the bottom side of the shell and two out of the four spurs are not factory original but function and appear to be with rubber tips. September 1961 Slingerland 5.5x14' 8-lug. Mahogany/poplar shell, no issues, no cracks, appears fully in round, Niles badge intact, maple re-rings, Pearl replacement strainer and generic snare wires, and what appears to be an amateur by good quality refin to a nice shade of metallic blue. No internal muffler. It never had one. I gave it a quick wipe-down, as it was dusty, but it needs a good cleaning and a good home. Very usable drum as is, or possible refin/restoration. There are some dings, scuffs, scrapes and one almost dime-sized scrape that goes through the finish, but does not affect the drum in any way. | VINTAGE SLINGERLAND FESTIVAL SNARE DRUM 14" x 5" CHROME STEEL SHELL 8 LUG 1970, This item is a 1970's Slingerland"Festival" model snare drum. It was made in Niles. IL and its serial number is 400646. It has a steel shell with chrome plating. There are 8 lugs and it has the Slingerland"stick Saver" hoops(also steel) It looks as though all of the parts are original except for the snare wires which say"made in Japan" on them. I know these are not as sought after as the brass shell snares and the fancier Radio King& Sound King models but this little snare has a nice tone. It has a good amount of volume and a nice. Sharp attack. There is a bit of ring-y sustain but it is easily controlled with some dampening from a product like Moon Gel, Remo Rings or even the internal muffler. Even with the clear, ... moresingle ply head on it it has a nice tone. The issues with this drum are cosmetic. All of the hardware is working fine. There is just a bunch of pitting and some very light rust on the shell and hardware. With some elbow grease and metal polish it should clean up pretty good. As it sits it still works fine its just not as pretty as it used to be. This little snare is a sleeper. It may look old and worn but it still sound great. Clean it up or play it like it is there is no reason to spend $500 to get yourself a nice vintage snare when you can have this one. Vintage Slingerland 14' 6 LUG field drum from a professional, private collection. The badge is all brass from 1955-59 and reads SLINGERLAND QUALLITY DRUMS CHICAGO ILL.USA. This is a thin shell maple drum with reinforcement hoops. Tension hardware reads' Chicago USA" All hook and claw tension rods(tunes top and bottom at same time)work well and are original to this drum. Snare tension also works well with wire wrapped. Gut snares. The wood hoops are true and in good shape. This drum has flag holder and clip receiver for a harness. The shell is nicked and scratched. It has never been refinished. All original. The bottom head is a rare, desirable"Radio King" calf skin that is intact with no holes. The top head is a Remo"Fibre Skyn" head.

LUDWIG 5x14 Maple 4-Ply 10-Lug Snare Drum
Up for auction is a rare 80's Ludwig 4-Ply 10-Lug Maple Snare Drum. Very clean and complete. Drum began life with a chrome/plastic wrap. The wrap became buckled and cheap looking. So I very carefully removed it. Thankfully, little glue was used in putting down ghe wrap, which allowed me to revealed a beautiful maple/poplar shell underneath. This is now a nice sounding, professional looking drum. The badge and grommet were removed and replaced, making this drum still relatively authentic. Many of these thinner 4-ply shells were reserved for the lower line Rocker series and were generally 8-lug drums. This drum is unique in that it has 10 lugs. Some of the spots/marks on the lug in the pix are reflection/glare from the room lighting and/or camera flash. REMEMBER: Everything has a weak point. Tightening these lugs too much, whether it be to the shell, or the tension rods, may likely compromise these lugs.
