John Deere 40U antique tractor. Has working 3 point hitch. Rear rims are in good shape. Starts and runs well. All 4 speeds work well as well as reverse. Holds good oil pressure. Great to use. Restore or use for parts. Has been converted to 12 volts with an alternator. I see one weld on the steering arm(see picture) The right brake pedal is bent. Brakes and clutch are good. 1961 John Deere Diesel. Serial number T15859T. They made these from 1960-65. Starts and runs great. Transmission and rear end are quiet and thehydraulic lift works fine. Rear tiresare 6-7 years old and in great condition. One front tire is like new and the other is about 70% needs air every 2-3 months) Clutch is strong. Hydraulics are live. 540 PTO runs great.but is notlive. I have two manuals and a 7’ King Kutter back blade that go along with the tractor. No power steering. The alternator does not charge. This is my fifty I built. I got second place at my last pull. It has a 60 jd carb. Msd, Electronic ign. In distributor. Light weight front end, weight brackets, weld on hubs nine bolt, 40 steering wheel, shortened steering shaft. Shaft is removable with two bolts for fast hood removal. Front wheels are 15" from a 40 jd. Sheet metal back diff. cover. 14"38 rear wheels. Fuel cell optima battery. It was bored.125 before I got it. Runs great, the short block is stock besides overbore. The head is from a lp 50 as are the intake,exhaust. These were all ported professionally. The head was milled.050 and new valves and valve job about a year ago. It has a exhaust crankcase evac system. It also has Murphy motor service 2.0 roller rockers. K& N air filter, new water pump, new clutch, new brakes, new elec. fuel pump. John Deere 494 planter, ready to go, 4 row, same vintage as 520 620 720 tractor
John Deere model 494 planter. This is a 1958 model. First year of production for the 494. The planting mechanism is field ready, I've been through it and checked it out. It didn't need a lot of attention, just cleaned the grease that had hardened up out of some of the moving parts. The gearbox is good, I've filled it with oil, the clutch works fine, turns on and off every time. The drill shafts are cleaned up so you can slide them when you shift gears 1, 2 or 3 on the gearbox. I cleaned the marker chain rollers in the lift mechanism and buffed a little rust off the switching latch and put a little graphite on it. It is missing the piece that bolts to the drawbar that pulls the marker alternating chains, it does have the springs. This piece could be easily fabricated out of 1 inch flat iron. The seed cans are in very nice shape, ... morethe roller knockers are free in each unit, the plates turn freely. It has a set of bean plates in it, that is what was in it when I bought it. It did not come with any corn plates, but they are readily available here on eBay and you can buy the size that fits the grade of corn you intend to plant. You do not need a very big or powerful tractor to pull this planter, 20 horsepower is enough as long as it can operate a hydraulic cylinder. You will need to have an 8 inch stroke hydraulic cylinder as it is not being sold with one. The row spacing is adjustable from 40 inches down to about 34 inches. I think the frame has holes to go in to 32 or 30 but the seed cans will hit the tires. I think its set at 36 now, I forgot to measure it. The fertilizer boxes are pretty solid. But one box has a hole rusted through on the bottom. Its about 1.5 by 2 inches and you can see part of the hole under the auger in the last picture. The rubber spouts were all dried out and broken when I got it, so I removed the drive chain and you'll have to do a little sheet metal repair and get the hoses if you want to apply fertilizer.
