Akro Agate Ribbed Top Thumb Pot, 1940 Alley Agate Co.
Alley Agate Braun& Corwin Ribbed Top Thumbpot This mini glass flower pot or"thumb pot" was made in the late 1930's thru early 1940's by the glass marble company Alley Agate Co. Thumbpots' were made for children as another way for them to entertain themselves. They would plant flower seeds. Water the mini pot, and watch the flowers grow. A different use of toy marble glass, this item is colored in shades of emerald, white and clear. In excellent condition, not chipped or cracked and the drain hole is still unbroken. The bottom is embossed BRAUN& CORWIN which helps to identify it as a piece made by the Alley Agate Co. and not the Akro Agate Co. another marble company of that era. Advanced collectors will note that there is a difference in the style of the blending the colored glass, and in fact most Braun and Corwin ... moreitems are available only in colors used by the Alley Agate Co. 1-1/4 in tall. It's honestly adorable.

Very nice antique piece of EAPG(Early Pattern Glass) This pattern called thumbprint. Very pretty. I took many pictures for your viewing. The lady who collected these goblets had put the names on tags attached to the goblet. The condition is real good without chips. Cracks or nicks. Stands just under 6 inches tall with a 3 1/4 inch mouth. Created sometime in the 1800s. Great piece of history and yet functional. Any questions. Please feel free to ask.

Up for auction is this beautiful early Coffee Can done in the Imari pattern and palette. Circa 1800. It measures 2& 1/2 inches in height by 3& 1/2 inches in diameter across the top and including the handle. Delicately hand painted in the classic Imari palette of 18th Century Japan-rust red. Burnt orange, cobalt blue, green and rich gold accents- The Coffee Can has exquisite colors. Brilliant and bright belying its nearly 200 years. The pattern is the famous Finger and Thumb pattern which was popular in the early 1800s when this marvelous Coffee Can was made. I believe, by Coalport. This gem would be a perfect find for a collector of fine English porcelains.

The instrument has seven keys which are made out of wood(bamboo) Sanza and Mbira are the terms used by many African cultures to identify such instruments. This thumb piano comes from the Zande(Azande) peoples of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Such objects can be found in various culture in sub-Saharan African. They come in varieties of types and have in common a soundboard with keys: Thumb piano is a traditional instrument which consists of metal keys. Which number varies from one instrument to another. Usually these keys mount a sound board made from wood. The soundboard is usually nicely decorated with metal stubs, decorative motifs, or carved sculpture like on this example. In some cases a calabash was attached to the thumb piano to stabilize the instrument and get better sounds. Vintage clear blown glass lamp or chandelier part. Thumbprints of various sizes are pressed into the outside surface and around the neck. At the narrow end there is a fixed brass plug with a white metal ornamental collar that slides over it. A hollow threaded rod is set into the plug. There is a clear passage through that rod and out the bottom opening. There is a small opening on the top side of the base. Which makes me think it was part of a table lamp. However, the inside rim of that hole has tiny chips around it, which may mean that it was drilled after-the-fact and that this piece might be the top end of a glass chandelier. There is a large opening on the underside of the base surrounded by a short raised lip. This opening may have set into a ceiling canopy at one time. Weighs 1 lb 10 oz.
