A Japanese Wakizashi(Companion Sword) this is a WW11 or earlier sword, I don't know a lot about Japanese swords, I do know that this set is missing a few pieces, the spring steel clip that keeps the sword snug in the scabbard and maybe a chain that fits from the hole in the butt to the hole on the end of the guard. The blade is in good condition. No nicks, it is sharp. When the sword is in the scabbard the two together measure 27" long, just the sword alone measures 24" long overall, the blade is 19" long. It the balance and feel is interesting. Now that I have a feel for it. I understand what I want out of a commissioned blade. I would like to hang onto the blade but I just have way to many katana right now. I don't seem to stop buying them so I need to part with what I have. I am sure this will make someone very happy. Last Legend stopped producing blades a few years ago. Their blades had quite a following and have become rather hard to find. The Mikusa was not the most popular blade and that makes it a little more scarce. This is a great chance to own a somewhat unique blade. Mikusa Nohara katana grade 2– MSRP $389.00(when you could buy it) 1090 steel ... moredifferentially clay tempered 28” Blade Double Ring Tsuba 11” Tsuka(From the LL web site) The Mikusa katana family of blades are similar to the Yashima family. This is a Keicho Shinto style blade with an aggressive sori. Here is a quick fighter with a light feel. This blade is torizori with full niku. A striking masame hada in the folded blade, a dramatic taper from machi to yokote, and a longer chu kissaki. This blade will combine the cutting ability of the pro cutter series with the agility of the battle series. Condition: This blade has several cosmetic issues that I have tried to describe in the details below. They do not come up as used blades very often so now is a great chance to buy one. Found in an estate with kitchen utensils from the early 1900’s to the early 1960’s– so German marking must be pre WWII. Since these are not marked West Germany. And with the regulations regarding imports during that period these should date to the 1930’s or earlier. Size: approx length is 8 inches; approx width at the top of the handles is 2 5/8ths inches.
