Up for sale is ROLAND PG-1000. The only external controller unit for the very popular and powerful D-50 and D-550 synthesizers. The unit appears to be working fine. As I went through some basic testing. Please note I'm not a technician at these and this is just a brief test that all the buttons and sliders seemed like they were responding and changing sound, using Roland D-50 synthesizer. Cosmetically the unit is in nice condition as shown. Some minor signs of wear and marks here and there but nothing major. Comes with the Roland Connection Cable as shown. AC adapter is not included. I bought this PG-1000 to program my D-550 but never got around to using it. Makes programming a D-50 much easier. Since it's got sliders for all the main functions, and doesn't require flipping from screen to screen. It's in good condition and comes with a power supply and a CD containing thousands of patches for the Roland D-50, D-550, and virtual D-50 card(VC-1) While I haven't used it in such a manner. It_is_ technically possible to connect this to your Mac or PC and use it as a MIDI controller by mapping the hard-coded functions. I've read about someone doing the remapping in Logic, but have not tried this myself. I lost my job in October so I'm liquidating my home studio to pay some bills. Sorry. I have seven of eight packs(vol1. vol8) of Roland sound library(RSB-501. RSB-508) for the S-50 and S-550 synthesizer and even possibly the W-30 and others. In each vol are aproximately ten diskettes with differing number of musical suggestions for the synthesizer by Roland manufacture. These of course are origonal copies the same as of the time of purchase in origonal packagings. A unique wealth of tracks from the source is very rarely available on the market today. For sale is a Roland D-550 synthesizer- the rack-mount version of the D-50- from the early 1990s. The D-50/550 was extremely popular because it provided a way to design very complex and dynamic patches. Combining methods of both sampling and conventional subtractive synthesis. Roland called this"Linear Synthesis" and is entirely digital. One designs patches as two pairs of"partials, choosing from a library of transient samples(like mallet strikes, wind"chuffs, string plucks) sustained digital tones, various loops made from transient samples, or envelope-filterable square/sawtooth oscillators. Ring modulation between partials is available. This makes the D-550 very good at imitative patches, like pianos, strings, horns, and tuned percussion. In fact, something that makes the D-550 better than a sampler in some cases is ... morethat because you can change the keyboard scaling from 1:1 to other fixed and"stretched" ratios for a given partial, you can design something like a harpsichord patch where the pitch of the plucked attack sample doesn't rise up the keyboard as much, so that it sounds more realistic up and down the keyboard. The analog-style oscillator/filter combination can do the sort of thing you'd expect from, say, a Roland Jupiter-6, but it has a sound that's all its own and isn't a strict simulation of an analog synthesizer.
