The display measures approximately 9" x 14" with a metal tab for hanging~displaying. Each tool has a printed metal identification label. This tool was used by Surgeons in Mesopotam ia to lance the cornea and preform abdominal incisions KNIFE ~ Egypt-ca. 1300 B.C. This tool was used for the the removal of tumors. Physicians-priests used knives of this type to remove absesses. Especially in the neck, the breast and the stomach, then cauterized the wound with a red hot iron. The set goes into a wooden carrying container made of light mahogany, enforced with solid bronze braces ensuring its durability in the rough battlefield conditions. The top 4 instruments all look original to the case and fit well the bottom two I think are additions and there is space for perhaps a pair of scissors to the centre. WWII WW2 USMC US Navy Surgical Instruments Roll Okinawa Corpman Named USN MD
WW2 US Navy USMC Corpsman General Operating Instruments Roll No.1. Lt. jg) Carl W. Christensen. MC, USNR. I believe Lt. Carl Christensen to have been involved the amphibious assault on Okinawa( Operation Iceberg) I have found several pieces of evidence to support this. The first being an article from a Sept 1965 Pastoral Psychology( volume 16. Issue 6 pg 4)which I have the link to below. The second being a US Navy document which puts Lt Christensen on the USS Dohertry( DE 14) August 1945. The USS Dohertry ran patrol, escort and air sea rescue missions between Guam and Okinawa between Feb 1945 and the end of the war. For your consideration is an early leather fold medical field pouch(6.5" by 3" with three instruments inside. The inside of the pouch reads D.R.G.M. at bottom of one flap and has the Dr.s name who it belonged to at the top which I cannot entirely make out. Included is one tweezers. Thermometer in case(thermometer is cracked) and depressor/suturing tool(not exactly sure) The leather on the case is in delicate shape and crackling. Condition of items consistent with use and age. Dimensions: Gouge length: 10 cm/ Chisel length 9.4 cm. Identifying marks: Both instruments stamped'Luer' amongst other impressed marks(please see photos) Condition: Good original condition with some wear to the silver/chrome plating. Physicians-priests used knives of this type to remove absesses. Especially in the neck, the breast and the stomach, then cauterized the wound with a red hot iron. This tool may also have been used for castration. TREPHINATION DRILL ~ Europe- 18th century. This is a scaled reproduction of a brace and bit belonging to Olaf of Acrel. The"Father of Swedish Surgery. OBSTETRICAL FORCEPS ~ Arabic- 10th century. This instrument was reproduced from an illustration appearing on the Treatises on Surgery. Written by Abulcasis, the great Arab doctor, born 936 A.D. and published 500 years after his death. HATCHET ~ Used for Trephination- Peru(Inca) ca. 1200 A.D. Tumi" used by the Incas in performing the skull operations- also probably in amputations and the cutting of hands and ears. Either for therapeutic or ritualistic reasons or as punishment.

CIVIL WAR ERA SURGICAL SURGEONS INSTRUMENTS TONGUE DEPRESSOR TOOL C.H. & CO.
This is a no reserve auction for a Civil War era surgical instrument. I am not exactly sure what this tool was used for but it look like a tongue depressor. It measures 6 ¾” long and is stamped C. H. Antique Civil War Period Doctor's Surgical Medical Kit Instruments
This is a Civil War era. Roll-up, physician's pocket surgical kit. It was originally deep red leather inside and out, now well worn, with 15 instrument holders and a lined pocket for papers. The clasp is probably nickel. The interior leather and holders had gold trim that is well worn. It measures 6" x 3" folded. Some of the instruments are stamped Wiegand& Snowden as shown. These were John Wiegand and Thomas Snowden, surgical instrument makers and partners in Philadelphia, PA, from 1824-1855. There are 13 instruments as listed below.
