A inversely proportional amount of horizontal prism is generated in the left eye. For example: no prism OD. Dial reads 10^EX OS, at 5^ LH OD. OS reads 9^EX at 10^ OD. HISTORY The American Optical Company(AO) was formed in 1869 through the merger of several spectacle shops in an area around Southbridge. Massachusetts. Over the course of many years, the company and its engineers registered patents for dozens of spectacle designs, manufacturing methods, and machines. By the 1920s, American Optical was the largest manufacturer of eyeglasses and lenses in the world. DESCRIPTION This is a circa 1940s- 1950s Optician's/ Optometrist's trial case used to conduct ophthalmic testing in order to determine the required type and strength of eyeglasses required for a given client. This traveling trial kit allows the optician to visit a client on site and test various eyeglass configurations. The eyeglass portion of the kit carries American Optical's logo. AO" and a U.S. Patent number of 2.256,491. This ... morepatent was issued in 1941. So we can date the set to that year and beyond. The red felt-lined case has slots for all of the various eyepieces. Each eyepiece is marked so that you know what you're dealing with and can put it back into its correspondingly marked slot. There are concave and convex lenses, really thick lenses that give you a googley-eyed look, red and green lenses, flat black lenses with pinholes and slits, etc. This must be the"deluxe" version, because there are over 220 pieces in the kit! The current trend is to use the various eyepieces to make pendants for steampunk jewelry. The eyeglasses themselves are pretty steampunk and are fun to try on with the various lenses. The case measures about 22.5" X 12.5" X 2.75" CONDITION This item is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. The kit appears to contain all of its pieces. Ultramatic RX Master Reichert Phoroptor Phoropter 11625 B Minus Cylinder
I am selling my used equipment. This is one of two of these that I have. The only issue that this one has is that it is missing one hex head screw as shown in picture number 2. It has however not hindered it's performance and was a result of a company that cleaned and calibrated it. This unit has been in been in storage since removed from service due to the closure of this practice for about 5 years. It will need to be cleaned and any good phoroptor service company can fix the missing screw for probably no added charge( I believe the average cleaning and calibration is about $325) I do not have the original shipping box that this unit came in. I will be charging a $50 shipping and handling fee and will include insurance for the purchased price for the lower 48 State.
