It shows definite wear, some very small dents and scratches, but nothing that affects the integrity of the can in any way. The colors are still very bright and vivid. Some very minor fading on the New York letters. I rinsed the inside with soap and hot water, then let it air dry. I cleaned the outside very carefully, so as not to affect the labels. This is an old label from Mount Washington Brand Maple Sap Syrup. It was produced for the Bay State Maple Syrup Company of Boston. Massachusetts. There is a reference to the Mount Washington Brand to at least as far back as 1912. The date of the label is unknown and I would think it was unused being in such good condition. I didn't measure so if interested let me know. It probably is the typical size of a label on a similar product now. As you probably know the Native Americans showed the Europeans how to bleed the maple trees of their sap. I don't know the exact process but there is a lot of cooking and it takes about 20 gallons of sap to make a gallon of maple syrup. The lighter the color of the syrup, generally the higher the cost although many people claim the darker syrups taste the best. Regardless, pure maple syrup is very ... moreexpensive but most supermarkets carry at least one brand. I remember"Vermont Maid, was 15% maple syrup and now I think there is no maple syrup in their"breakfast syrup. The low percentages forced companies to change from using maple syrup if it contained none or very little. The White Mountains are in NH and the Green Mountains are in Vermont. The green because of trees and white because there are few or no trees. People out West generally don't know how rugged these mountains are. Mount Washington is only about 6000+ feet above sea level but it has fierce winds and often is 50 or more degrees lower in temperature than at the base. Quebec Province produces 75% of the world's supply but Vermont is by far the largest producer of maple syrup of all the American states. The label is in very good condition. Please ask questions if there is an interest. The colors of the label are very vivid and perhaps the label has been in this plastic covering for many years. Incidentally, the native Americans fables and methods are quite interesting to read as is the history of maple syrup that I could find.

Head northwest through Schwartzentruber Amish country and you were there. Small town Spencer. Ohio in the 1930's. Handbill measures 5" x 7 1/4" and is made of paper. Good condition with face and edges clean. Corners square. Some yellowing with age. A crease in upper left corner is only flaw.

Up for bidding today is a vintage 1 half gallon(64 FL. OZ. Pure Maple Syrup New York tin. It was made by the New England Container Co. and copyrighted in 1984. This tin was bought for me with syrup in it. And was used many times until it was gone. It shows definite wear, some very small dents and scratches, but nothing that affects the integrity of the can in any way. The colors are still very bright and vivid. Some very minor fading on the New York letters. I rinsed the inside with soap and hot water, then let it air dry. I cleaned the outside very carefully, so as not to affect the labels. The tin still has the price tag and local makers label intact. A very nice advertising piece for anyone's country kitchen! This comes from a smoke free home. Ships to all 50 states.

primitive americana silver plate decagon maple syrup decanter
Please note: I ship to USA only I found this very unique item at an estate sale. Searching high and low has yielded nothing similar. It is a dispenser of some sort– cream or syrup maybe. One person told me that it is shaped like a maple sap evaporator she saw when she was young. This could therefore be a maple syrup dispenser intended to look like the evaporators of old. The only identification on the item is a very worn laurel wreath around a 5-point star with an“s” barely observable in it. The words“quadruple silver” appear as well. It is assumed to be quadruple silver plate. Indications are that this item may date back to 1900 or so– though we can find no direct evidence of that.
