Hello. You are viewing my auction for an Antique or Antique Reproduction Coal Mining Light Or Safety Lamp. This lantern has a Marked 2365 on the bottom rim. This Lamp has a wire Mesh Screen top and a glass bottom. I believe that this is a Brass Lamp however I am not 100% certain of this. The lamp does unscrew from the bottom which I have shown in my photographs. There are no markings on this light to show who made it or where or when it was made. I am fairly certain that this is an exact replica of a Belgian mining lamp. The entire lamp up to the top of the round hook measures 10 and 1/4" tall. The base measures 4 and 1/8" across at the very bottom. The wire mesh has no rips or tears in it. The lamp is in good condition with no breaks, bends, or repairs present. There is some dust on this item which I have left due to the fact that ... moreI do not clean the items I sell. I leave that up to the new owner. Please view all my photographs for further details. 1907. STOCK CERTIFICATE, FAIR/GOOD CONDITION, THE MASSILLON- CRYSTAL COAL CO. MASSILLON, OHIO
Found this today in the back of a old shop. Was told it was used in the coal mines back in the early days.Have seen the old shafts where they would lay on their back or stomach to chip the coal out, that was in Kentucky,Worked surface mines there.Have no idea the age of the hammer, but you can tell it was used a lot back in the day.One end is sharp at the point and the other side is like a chisel. The head is tight on the handle and the handle has a lot of grooves about half way down.If the head ever had a brand name on it,it is worn off now.If this old hammer could talk, bet it could tell some mining stories. The handle is 10 3/4" long, the head is 7 1/2" wide, around 1" tall. Thanks for looking.

And was operated in conjunction with the nearby Southwst No. 2 Mine, a drift mine. In 1886 Southwest No. 2& No. 3 Mines employed 125 miners who produced over 87,000 tons of coal. By 1890 the shaft and drift mines near Tarrs were combined and simply called Southwest No. 3 Mine& Coke Works. That year witnessed the production of nearly 210.000 tons of coal, which was less than half the amount produced at the Southwest No. 1"A" B" Mines, which produced over 540,000 tons of coal, which was second in the county to the production at the H.C. Frick Coke Company's Standard Mines, near Mt. Pleasant. In 1900 the Southwest No. 3 Coke Works had 180 bee-hive coke ovens. Producing nearly 140,000 tons of coke. A total of 187 miners were employed at the Southwest No. 3 Mine& Coke Works, the Superintendent was Morris Ramsay. In 1892 the Southwest Coal& Coke Company was reorganized as the Southwest Connellsville Coal& Coke Company. By 1900 the Southwest No. 3 Mine produced over 259.000 tons of coal and its coke works produced over 146,000 tons of coke from 252 bee-hive coke ovens. Here is a vintage miner's oil wick lamp with a brass body and 2 clear maker's stampings: On the lamp body is a shield with"ST*AR* GRIER BROS. PITTSBURG. PA. and on the brass spout is a 5-point star inside a decorative circle with"G.B. inside the star center. Hard to get the pictures on curved surfaces. But the stamping is great. Offered is an early MSA Coal Mining hat with the full brim. Any writing that was there originally has been worn off so I really don't know too much about this hat. I tried finding one exactly like it but to no avail(I would welcome one of you collector's to clue me in? The webbing inside has gone south a little. It looks like someone really didn't want to get a new hat and tried to make this one work. I picked it up at an estate yesterday where the guys father had passed and he was left a few things.and evidently he was a miner all of his life. I don't know the size but if you ask. I know how to use a tape! Satisfaction is 100% guaranteed. Winning bidder pays shipping. Thank you for looking.
Vintage Brass Plated Tin Coal Miner's Mining Safety Lamp Invented in England by Humphrey Davy in 1815 Made in Hong Kong In England in 1815. Humphrey Davy invented a safety lamp for use in c oal mines. There had been many mining explosions caused by methane often ignited by open flames of the lamps then used by miners. In particular the Felling mine disaster in 1812 near Newcastle caused great loss of life. And action was needed to improve underground lighting and especially the lamps used by miners. Davy conceived of using an iron gauze to enclose a lamp's flame, and so prevent the methane burning inside the lamp from passing out to the general atmosphere. This lamp was made in Hong Kong in the 1980s. The wick has been blackened but it doesn't look as though the reservoir was ever filled with oil. Lightly tarnished in spots. But ... moreotherwise in excellent condition. Stands about 8 inches tall and has a hook for hanging. All items will be accurately described to the best of my ability(new. HITSORY: In April 1867. The Pittston Railroad and Coal Company acquired more than 6,000 acres of coal lands along the Susquehanna River in and around Nanticoke, in the rich coalfields ... moreof the Wyoming Valley in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Only two years later, in 1869, the Pennsylvania Railroad acquired the Pittston Railroad and Coal Company and changed its name to the Susquehanna Coal Company. The new company’s 6,000 acres of coal lands were on both sides of the Susquehanna River at Nanticoke Dam, where traces of its mining are still visible today. During the next half-century men working in its deep mines and sloping shafts took literally millions of tons of hard black Anthracite coal from beneath the ground. Then, in 1913, the Pennsylvania Railroad began consolidating and selling its Susquehanna stock and property to the Susquehanna Collieries Company, a subsidiary of the M. A. Hanna Company of Cleveland, Ohio. Within four years, by 1917, the Pennsylvania Railroad had divested itself of all its interests in mining and selling coal. Credit, SHIPPING: FREE.
