Kidd Youren, the newest member of the Helfrich Family, has been working for Helfrich River Outfitters since 2010. He spends his summers running a drift boat, fishing or running the ... morebig sweep boat on the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho where he runs ahead of the group each day to set up camp and prepare for the customers to arrive. In the fall, Kidd works as a steelhead-fishing guide, running a drift boat on the wild and scenic Rogue River.
Kidd is also the star of a new reality TV show on truTV called Way Out West. The show features three prominent outfitting families in Idaho. The show is full of shenanigans and laughs as the three families compete and play. Way Out West Website
Kidd is a fifth generation Idahoan, born in Garden Valley Idaho where his family was the first white settlers and cattlemen. Generations of the Youren Family have run cattle from Garden Valley and Horseshoe Bend, up into Bear Valley along the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon. As a child, Kidd joined his family, starting the day after he was born, in the secluded meadows of Bear Valley along the road into the Middle Fork where they were running cattle in the summers.
Growing up, Kidd lived with his family in Idaho, Nevada, and British Columbia. He worked on the family ranch and worked along side his dad on outfitted hunting trips. Growing up on a ranch, Kidd became very interested in Rodeo and he started competing at a young age. After graduating from high school in Fernie British Columbia and winning the Alberta High School Rodeo Finals for team roping, Kidd moved back to Idaho and began working towards buying his own outfitting company. As the son of an outfitter, Kidd grew up hunting and working with his dad on a daily basis, starting his guiding career at a very young age. In 2007 Kidd bought his own hunting area on the Boise River in Idaho where he works as a hound-hunting outfitter for bear and cougar. Kidd also outfits trips for aoudad for west Texas.
Kidd is the newest member of the Helfrich family! He and Kelsey Helfrich got married September of 2013 and are loving their new life together.
Kris Belozer is one of the newer members of the Helfrich Outfitters Team but his boating skills and experience are much greater than his age would lead you to believe. Kris is an accomplished ... moredrift boater, fishing guide, rafting guide and whitewater kayaker. Growing up as the son of a river outfitter, Kris leaned the art of boating and guiding at a young age. At 9 Kris started running a baggage boat on the Deschutes River and once he was 18 he started his guiding career. Kris works with his dad Jon Belozer at Belozer’s Whitewater Fishing on the upper and lower Deschutes River in Oregon. Kris started working with the HRO crew in 2011 and is on the fall Rogue steelhead fishing crew. He also guides for HRO on the Main Salmon and Middle Fork of the Salmon in the summers.
When Kris is not guiding, he will be found either snowboarding or kayaking waterfalls and exploring new whitewater sections. Kris isn't afraid to travel to find his next adventure. His latest excursion took him on a kayaking waterfall tour around Chile. These stories and many more make a day in the boat with Kris very entertaining.
Kris is known to make some daring moves in his kayak but is a smart and safe river guide with guests.
Tim often says he has the perfect life. He spends much of his year teaching mathematics and geology to high school and junior college students. But when summer hits, he can usually ... morebe found on a river.
Tim grew up camping, boating, and fishing the lakes of Minnesota. His parents instilled a love of all things outdoors within him and his two brothers. Annual vacations out west only enhanced a love of mountains and rivers and in 1983, he followed that love of the west to Burley, Idaho. Tim has often said, “I wasn’t lucky enough to be born in Idaho, but I’m darned sure going to die in Idaho.”
Tim moved to Idaho with a degree in drafting and a few years of experience in construction. After four more years of construction, he returned to school and earned a B.S. in Mathematics Education and later a Masters of Natural Science in Geology from Idaho State University in Pocatello. 1990 was an important year for Tim. He began his teaching career that year at Burley High School and still loves watching kids learn and expand their knowledge. He also began his boating career.
In the summer of 1990, Tim was invited by a friend to go along as a “grunt” on a commercial river trip on the Main Salmon in Idaho. Although he had only rafted once, Tim thought it would be a good way to see the Salmon River, even if it meant working long hours. By the second day he was hooked, and has not missed a season of guiding on the Main Salmon or Middle Fork since. In 1994 he met his best friend, Marilyn on the Salmon and they were married a year later on the river. They enjoy many outdoor adventures together both on and off the river. They raised two kids and will have their second grandchild in August of 2014. Tim can also be found chasing elk with his muzzleloader, target shooting, hiking, and camping, and traveling.
Tim began his guiding career with Warren River Expeditions and spent 20 years working for them on the Main Salmon and Middle Fork of the Salmon. He did his first trip with Helfrich River Outfitters in 2011. “I can’t imagine a better river trip than that offered by Helfrich River Outfitters. I feel fortunate to work with such a great group of people,” Tim says. Although Tim teaches Geology for much of the year, he never tires of talking about the geology of his favorite river, the Middle Fork of the Salmon.
Sherill Helfrich is not a licensed guide, however she has put in a lot of river miles with the Helfrich River Outfitter (HRO) crew. She is the head office person and will most likely ... morebe the voice on the other end of the line when you call the Helfrich Outfitters office. Sherill and Kenny have been married 32 years and she is the proud momma of Kelsey. She has also been given the nickname of "den mom" by the crew and loves it!
Sherill grew up in Junction City, Oregon and spent lots of time on the river with her family. Thanks to her Dad, he taught her to fly fish and love the outdoors.
She enjoyed a 31 year career as a Lane County Land Use Planner. Now retired from that life, she finally gets to spend more time as a part of the HRO team in the office along with getting to spend more time on the riverKen & Sherill Helfrich! When she's not on the water or in the office, you can find her gardening or trail riding with her horse Dutch. She is a big Oregon Duck football supporter and attends almost every home game.
Sherill loves being more involved in HRO activities and especially enjoys being able to join Kenny, Kels, clients and crew on the river. It's so fun that many guests have become wonderful friends as well.
