John Cantrell, owner/guide, and Cliff Fowler, master guide, have a combined fishing experience on Big Bear Lake of 80 years. John and Cliff are two thoroughly well experienced fishermen ... morewho know the secrets of the trade and the in’s and out’s of Big Bear Lake.

John Cantrell first came to Big Bear Lake on family vacations when he was a child. He continued to come back when he had a family of his own. In 1989 he met “Capt. Pete” who taught him everything there was to know about fishing in Big Bear Lake.

In 1991, John took over his guiding business and Cantrell Fishing Guide Service began… With the longest running guide service on Big Bear Lake, John knows Big Bear Lake and loves to share fishing tips and the secrets spots. Beware though: John has some jokes that will either make you LOL or just shake your head.

To see an angler with an ear-to-ear grin when they land their “Trophy Rainbow Trout” or the young angler who catches their first fish, the sparkle in their eyes and knowing that the memory will be with them for the rest of their lives. That is what makes me happy! ~ John
Cliff Fowler, Master Guide fell in love with Big Bear in 1965 when his parents built their first vacation home in Moonridge. After selling the valleys best-known fishing shop, he teamed ... moreup with John Cantrell, owner of Cantrell’s Fishing Guide Service, which has been the longest running charter service since 1991. Cliff Fowler has been the host of “Fowlers Fish Tales” on KBHR 93.3 for 15 years.
Conner McDonough first moved to Big Bear in the winter of 1996, and graduated from Big Bear High in 2014. He began working for John in the spring of 2012 and has been hooked ever since! ... moreHe spent his first two years as a deckhand under John and Cliff, before learning the trade of being a guide. Come enjoy some reel fun aboard the Less Stress!
Gleb Korolov moved to Los Angeles from Ukraine when he was eight, and then to Big Bear Lake when he was ten. Fishing has always been his passion, and he spent majority of his summers ... moreon the lake. He started working at the docks to sneak in a few casts in boat slips, that’s where he met John The Fishing Master! He asked to be deckhand on his boat and he agreed. The next three summers consisted of netting fish, cleaning boats, learning everything about Rainbow Trout, and the technique of trolling. In the summer of 2010 he graduated from Big Bear High School and moved away for college for a few years (still fishing everyday). When he came back Spring of 2013 he was right back on the boat with John and Cliff, then became a guide the following spring.
“Let’s go fishing! I can’t wait!”
