Colten started fishing at the young age of file; what was originally a family hobby turned into a lifelong passion. At the age of eleven he discovered fly fishing and never looked ... moreback. When Colten’s friends started taking an interest in the sport in 2011, he was able to realize the potential he possessed to become a fly fishing guide. Following his dreams, Colten teamed up with Colorado Trout Fisher to share his passion with everyone he encounters.

Colten grew up on an 800 acre ranch where he raised wolves, rode dirt bikes, and learned to hunt. He enjoys everything about the outdoors from climbing up the mountains to snowboarding down them. When stuck indoors Colten is either creating his own fly patterns or running his restaurant.
Travis grew up on the blue ribbon waters of Idaho and after college he moved to Montana where his love of hunting and fishing lead him to a life of guiding. Travis's dedication to ... moreinstructing new anglers, outstanding patience and passion for sharing his knowledge makes him an excellent guide for clientele of all levels. His excitement of the outdoors is contagious and has built him a loyal following. Travis has that willingness to go the extra mile to ensure guests have an excellent trip. Travis has made guiding his life and spends his fall months in Montana where he guides for bugling bull elk and mule deer. His passion for trout on the fly is infectious, and has taken him all over the West. Eventually, Travis landed in Colorado where his love for fishing has been fueled by the numerous blue ribbon streams and rivers in this state. Even on his rare days off during the season he is out testing fly patterns fresh off his vice from the night before. If you want to chase trout that will make your reel scream, Travis is your guy.
After picking up fly fishing in college, Amy quickly became addicted, spending all her free time on the water. She started guiding as a way to share her love of fly fishing and encourage ... moreothers to get outside and enjoy our natural areas. A Colorado native, Amy currently lives in Fort Collins, Colorado where she works as a biological technician with the U.S. Geological Survey in the off season. She has studied aquatic insects since 2009, collecting and identifying samples as a means of monitoring changes in various rivers and streams. Amy also has a freelance illustrating business on the side, specializing in aquatic insects and nature. When on the water with clients, Amy enjoys working on fishing skills new and old, sharing her knowledge of trout and insects, and most of all helping others create great fishing memories!
Joel grew up fishing in Northern Minnesota, chasing around bass, pike and walleye. When he moved to Colorado back in 2006 he quickly got hooked (pun intended) on fly fishing. The thing ... moreJoel truly loves about fly fishing is the beauty that surrounds you on the river. Sometimes you just need to look around and remember where you are. Joel has worked his way around the state and cut his teeth on many rivers. Joel’s favorite river to fish is the Frying Pan up near Basalt, Colorado. He love to teach the sport to newcomers, as its a great way to spend a day in Colorado. When not guiding, Joel also enjoy traveling and has fished quite a few states here in the west; California, Wyoming, New Mexico and Alaska.

Cole was born and raised in Woodland Park Colorado before relocating to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College. He got his first trout fishing education, growing up on a farm with trout ... moreponds and surrounded by rivers.

Cole graduated from Fort Lewis with a Tourism Resort Management degree and spent some years working in the hospitality and resort industry before taking a position with the San Juan Angler assisting in the management of the shop as well as guiding.

He loves to spend his days off exploring the back country high mountain streams in the area as well as dredging the deep sections of the animas for the big ones.

Will is one of the head guides here at Animas Valley Anglers, he also happens to be the owner. Be it an addiction or a love for the craft Will can be found fishing and guiding through ... moreout the Southwest well over 200 days each year. He has been going strong on these local waters since 1989, and started guiding in 1992. Will started his guide career with Duranglers in Durango Colorado. Will guided for seven years with that outfit before starting Animas Valley Anglers in 2000.

He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, expertise and a positive, enjoyable attitude to a guide trip. Will is comfortable on any body of water, in pursuit of any species of fish. Be it Rio Grande brownies, picky San Juan bows, Babine steelhead or anything in between. Will has logged more guided float hours on the Animas and upper San Juan (Pagosa) than most anyone. Will has put in his time on water making him one of the regions most sought after guides. After spending a day on the water with Will you will have learned the true meaning of the "fly fishing experience."

When not guiding...
Will can be found late in the fall and early winter exploring the remote waters of north central BC for the worlds largest steelhead. He spends countless hours probing the Kispiox, Babine, Bulkley, Skeena and many other remote waters with friends, his wife Amanda and their black lab Kispa. (Chloe, their Dane/Lab mix has to stay home)

Will and Amanda are also proud parents. They welcomed Benjamin Rally Blanchard into the world December 15th 2010. Ben's first fishing trip to the Animas was 10 days later on Christmas day.

When not working hard on the oars or wading knee deep in a steelhead stream Will can be found behind the lens of his camera documenting the natural world and the fly fishing lifestyle. He also spends a lot of time in front of the computer as a web designer and graphic artist for Animas Valley Anglers.

One of his true passions however is ice hockey. He spends countless hours on the ice at the Chapman Hill Ice Arena in Durango Colorado as well as the frozen ponds, lakes and rinks near Smithers BC.
Aaron Hyder is one heck of a guide, plus he just happens to be one of the nicest ones out there on the water. His laid back no-pressure style, (like so many AVA guides) has earned ... morehim a great reputation from the San Juan to Alaska and all waters in between. He can get rookies into fish in no-time and tune up veteran anglers like no other.

His guide career put him in Alaska on the Togiak River from 2000-2005 (all salmon species on both single-handed fly rods and spey). He has lived in Durango since '98, but has been fishing the Juan and the other great waters of the Southwest since he was 12-years old. He started guiding on the Juan professionally in 2005.

All of Aaron's clients and friends would say he is an ace on the Juan. They are all starting to say the same for all the water he is sharing north of the San Juan. From the Rio Grande, Animas and Upper San Juan to all the mountain streams around Durango Aaron's becoming a hot commodity in the guide world.

Aaron has a fantastic guide style, but his ability to teach new anglers is uncanny. He can also help accomplished anglers reach personal angling goals quickly. A day on the water with Aaron will leave you feeling like you accomplished something. Like big fish? Well, Aaron is the guy for the job. Big fish just fall in his net.

When not guiding...

Aaron loves spending time with his family, teaching, playing golf, snow and water skiing, baseball games and drinking cold PBR.
