Up for auction is a vin tage'The Clipper' No. 2B Special fanning mill. This machine ha s bee n in storage for some ti m e. And I had never seen one pr ior to obtain ing this one. So I'll do m y best to describe it. Manufactured by A.T. Ferrell& Company in Saginaw Michigan. This machine appears to operate as it should. Although the old leather belt for the turbine didn't seem to want to stay on. Since I took the pictures, I figured the correct way to run the belt, and now it works just fine. Operator error: It has an electric motor. I do not know if it was converted to electric at some point. Or if the motor is original equipment. The v-belt is frayed, and could stand to be replaced, but it does run the machine. There are a couple of places where the wood on the machine has been damaged. Mainly the corner of the hopper, and it is pictured below. The metal parts of the machine do have some surface rust. But I didn't notice any areas of rot. Here is a nice very old Clipper 1 B seed cleaner. Originally sold from Kelly's seed Co. in Peoria IL. The unit is missing the screens and hopper box. It has been converted to electric but the motor does not run. Still a nice unit to add to your collection. All wood seems to be solid still. Fan works as it should. Tin is all there but rusty. For local pick up only I will consider meeting someone for delivery within 100 miles for a reasonable fee. Buyer can have it shipped but must arrange the shipping pick up themselves.

The shoots for the large and small off fall had a few holes in them from rust due to rodents so we added a 1/8" sheet of plastic lining and it should never rust out again. Clipper Fanning Mill Seed Cleaner No 1B A.T. Ferrell Homestead Equipment Grain
Beautifully decorated Clipper Fanning Mill. This seed cleaner is in very nice shape. The wood is solid and unbroken. The metal is solid and has surface rust only in spots as can be expected. The parts turns and shake the way that they should, The pulleys are in good shape even the leather belt is decent. The motor is not on it anymore, that is easy to find. It has 13 screens all in shiny condition except 2 of the mesh screens, these are rusty not holey, but they feel kind of weak like they would not take heavy use, these are the really fine holed screens. There is wear to the paint in areas and the corners of the wood are worn on the bottom. I have not repaired anything there was no need,except I had to bump out a dent in the fan housing so the fan did not rub it. In doing so I found that bolts to tighten the fan body to the shaft loosen ... moreeasily this is nice for adjusting the fan, and that it slides easily on the shaft. The wooden blades look good also. There are some extra pulleys for changing speeds I assume, and an extra box not sure what for. Shipping can be arranged I have never shipped anything this big. But we can figure it out. Material Wood/Iron/Steel Used Bolton Landing Description The”Chatham Mill” fanning mill, used on a farm to separate grain from chaff or dirt by a blast of air produced by the fan. Also called winnowing-machine or seed cleaner. Hand-operated: a crank-handle is turned which rotates the fan encased in galvanized housing. A large box is moved back and forth, shaking the screens from side-to-side. Mill has an adjustable feed-slot at the top, and a series of three different screen sizes(wooden frame with wire or punched galvanized screens) The uppermost screen has the largest holes for the coarsest material, the screens ... morebelow are successively finer. Hopper funnel takes grain off from other end, beneath the fan, and directs feed material to the patented sacking attachment, of which only the funnel is accessioned(see.1b) Doors on each side to access the fan gears. Fanning Mill The Racine by Johnson & Field Manufacturing
The Fanning Mill stands 42" high. 28" wide and 54" long and an estimated weight is well over 200 lbs. For its age it's in good condition. We rescued this antique machine when a local farm was sold for development during the 1980's and it's been in our garage ever since. Now we hope to find a good home for this seed sorter. There is a missing part and that is the hand crank on the side of the mill. This mill has character and would add interest and conversation where it's displayed.

Antique Grain Fanning Mill! 1882! Bush Fanning Mill & Grader! Lebanon, MO!
Antique grain fanning mill! Bush Fanning Mill and Grader is still stenciled on the hood. This particular mill was a patented modification done by a fellow named J.D(Jonathon) Bush of Lebanon. MO who patented it in 1882. Red paint with pin striping can still be seen under the dirt. A possible usable antique! Date on iron is 1882. Crank handle gone. One paddle and the arm it attaches to is broken(paddle still there) Part of one sliding door is broken and gone. Other than the minor wood repairs and missing screens. This thing works. Screens are easily made. Turn the gears and the blades go around and the area where the screens are supposed to be shakes like it's supposed to. These were used to clean grains and were a staple on many farms around the turn of the century. After mills came along. Most were simply left outside to rot. For sale is a nice original Eureka grain fanning mill. Made by S Howes Co in NY. It is used. But in good useable condition. Part of the sheet metal surrounding the fan has been patched with heavy sheet metal. It does not come with screens. The unit has a bagging elevator that raises the cleaned grain to a bag or container. Antique wood 4 blade fan paddle from the 19th century grain fanning mill. Fan paddle center post measures 36" long(including hardware) Blades extend 13 1/8" out from center post, center post is 2 1/4" square, so total width across fan paddle(2 blades and center post) is 28 1/2" Each blade panel is 24" x 9 1/2" Condition appears to be very good with rusted hardware. Wiped the barn dust off this piece and the dark spots are still damp from cleaning.

Vintage wooden fanning mill. Grain& seed cleaner, 12 screens, electric motor, and elevator. Manufactured by A.T. Ferrell& Co. Saginaw, Mich Clipper 2B Special This mill is in good shape. Everything works as it should, and it has been converted to electric. There are 12 screens included, some may need the metal straightened on the edges with a pair of pliers. There is also an'elevator' included, may need some tlc, but it goes with it. I have not tried it with the elevator hooked up, so I don't know what kind of shape it is in. Although I say this is in good shape. It is by no means perfect. Grain sifter/ sorter in very. Very good shape, has been stored inside since new according to the old farmer, his dad bought it new and was always passed down. Has many screens for it, for grains such as oats and corn, even has blanks to make your own screens. This is a very complete set and you will be hard pressed to find another set up like this one. Please look at pictures. They are the best way for you to see what you are buying. If you buy the item and you are not happy with it when once you inspect it IN PERSON. You do not have to take it. Antique Vintage Wheat Fanning Mill Old Farm Equipment Primitive Grain Separater
I found this vintage/antique piece of equipment while cleaning out an old farm homestead. It was in the loft of the barn. It is a wheat fanning mill. Not sure of the age. Perhaps late 1800's to early 1900's. Some writing on the end is still legible. It reads Wheat Fanning and below is John Sullinger No. 3. It is in original condition although the screens are not in it. There is a possibility that the screens could be in the loft. When you turn the wheel it turns easily and the arm on the opposite end moves the unit from side to side(perhaps a sifting action) I am really not familiar with how this equipment works but it seems well preserved.
