Rare victorian glove holder up for sale. Attention hand collectors. I have only seen the reproduction of this piece before. Made in various asian countries. this piece doesn't have the full label but it is clearly marked NY. It has MAR ORKS INC NY remaining on the bottom plate. See photo. Measures 14" tall. 4" wide at the base and the hand clips are 2 5/8" long. Made in brass. Great overall cond. with only a wobble where the base and post meet. This cannot be tightened only glued to be kept straight. I have left this alone as it really doesn't take away from this piece and would be considered normal for the age of this piece.

Up for grabs is this stunning Purple/Cranberry. Velvet, Casket Box with a pair of 19th century ivory glove stretchers. I am not certain of the material of the stretchers. I believe ti was common that they were made of bone. The interior of the box is satin or silk. It also includes a small cream jar. This is a beautiful set. Back in the day when ladies wore gloves for any and all occasions. They occasionally took off the gloves and fastened them to a clip hanging from their handbags. This antique glove clip has a tight spring in the middle. Which locks onto the gloves and keeps them handy. The clip has a flower over the spring. And a design on each side of the clip. The chain is two pieces that fasten together. And the clasp overlaps to securely fasten the chain to a handbag strap. It's rare to even find a Victorian glove clip. Wooden Practical Glove Holder Glove Display Case for General Store A.N. Russell
This is a glove box from a department store. I bought it Christmas. 1968 for my mom from my favorite antique dealer in Lima, Ohio, Marjorie Marts. Margie told me it had come from an area store. I believe she said in St. Marys, Ohio, but I'm not positive that was the town. This box was made by A.N. Russell& Sons of Ilion. NY. They started in business in 1881, but his piece is likely from the the late 1890s or early 1900s. This wooden case was to organize and store what I think had to be kid gloves, because each drawer is divided by card stock into 6 segments. There wouldn't be room for 6 pair of winter gloves in the drawers, so it must have been kid gloves. The cabinet is comprised of 12 drawers. Which are actually more like swivel wooden file boxes than drawers. Each is labeled with a paper label denoting glove size and color. ... moreEach has its own wooden drawer pull. Each drawer pulls out. There are no dividers in the cabinet between the drawers. Once out and on a counter. There is a dovetailed wooden box the pulls open to reveal heavy card-stock partitions or dividers. You'll notice that in one of my photos of the drawer you can see a rounded cut-out area to open the drawer. When I bought this. I was struck at the precision of fit and finish to the piece. This company obviously made quality cases. The cardstock in each drawer is marked"THE PRACTICAL GLOVE HOLDER PATENT APPLIED FOR A. N. Russell& Sons. Ilion, N.Y. This cabinet is very heavy. But I do not know actual wood type. 14" wide x 15.5" deep(16" deep with pulls protruding) x about 8.75" tall. The clear plastic round box has writing on the top which says: Glove Holder, 14 K Gold Plated. The holder itself is a coppery-color gold tone with decorative etching all around. Has a small chain to attach, I suppose, through a button hole or on a purse handle. I don't know how old it is, but I'm guessing 1940's to 1950's? This box was made by A.N. Russell& Sons of Ilion. NY. They started in business in 1881, but his piece is likely from the the late 1890s or early 1900s. The patent date was 1897, this box list"patent applied for"This wooden case was to organize and store gloves, each drawer is divided by card stock into 6 segments. There wouldn't be room for 6 pair of winter gloves in the drawers, it was made for ladies silk gloves. The cabinet is comprised of 12 drawers. Which are actually more like swivel wooden file boxes than drawers. Each has its own wooden drawer pull. Each drawer pulls out. There are no dividers in the cabinet between the drawers. Once out and on a counter. The dovetailed wooden drawers pull open to reveal heavy card-stock partitions or dividers. The paper doard dividers are missing in six of the drawers. There is ... morea rounded cut-out area to open the drawer. The cardstock in each drawer is marked"THE PRACTICAL GLOVE HOLDER PATENT APPLIED FOR A. N. Russell& Sons. Ilion, N.Y. Overall measurements are approximately: 14" wide x 15.5" deep(16" deep with pulls protruding) x about 8.75" tall.
