Vintage Military Generator PE-95-K 10kw Onan Willys flathead engine on trailer
Vintage Miltary generator on trailer powered Willys jeep engine. 10kW rating This generator is probably Korean War vintage. Model number is PE-95-K I got it through an auction from a small town fire department. It's rated 10kW. But that's the very conservative. It's 10kW continuously. No matter how hot it is or if your on top of a mountain. It's 10kW and 12.5kVa. power factor 0.8) That means it'll handle inductive loads well. It's also is very good at starting large motors. It can be configured for 120v or 240 volts. It just requires moving a couple jumpers. I have a copy of the manual which describes how to do this. I also found a description on the internet of how to wire it for 2 120 circuits and 1 240 circuit at the same time. Like a house is wired) As is, it just has 4 120v receptacles. It's powered by a four ... morecylinder flat head Willys engine. you can just make out the letters"JEEP" in one of the pictures) Basically the same engine as used in early Jeeps. It has a governor which keeps it at 1800rpm. There is a knob to pull out to make the engine idle at a lower speed. I guess this is used when starting a cold engine so it can warm up at low speed. I think it originally had some kind of automatic choke. But that was replaced in a manual push/pull knob. It would have originally been just a skid mounted unit. But at some point a tongue and axle were added. But the original skid wasn't hacked up in the process so it could be returned to original configuration. The hitch takes a standard 2 inch ball. It sits pretty level with the hitch ball at standard height of 18 inches. Has 15 inch rims. 5 on 4.5 lug pattern. The unit weighs about 1500 pounds. At the outside edge of the tires its just under 4 feet wide. The enclosure is about 62 inches long. Including the tongue its about 10 ft long. This is two MEP 002A units mounted on a 2007 model year 1 1/2 ton Military Trailer. The generators were both rebuilt by a US Government contractor and installed on a brand new trailer in 2007. One unit has 5 hours on meter. The second unit has 7 hours on meter. The trailer and both generators are in extremely good condition. Both generators start easily. Run smoothly and have been load tested. Both generators power output run to a central control box that allows you to have one electrical output for both units. You can select either generator to run or run both simultaneously depending on load. The two original MEP 002A were both rebuilt to like new condition and installed on this new trailer in 2007. They both look almost like brand new. These generators are an extremely common design with filters and parts available at Napa and on places ... morelike Ebay. The generators are rated at 5KW by US Military at 4000 ft. altitude. The military underrates them and near sea level they will produce over 7 KW each. You can google free copies of the military service manual for these units. You will not find a nicer setup than this. It allows you the flexibility to have a variable output capacity meaning with smaller loads only one unit can run to save fuel. The batteries for the generators are from 2007 and may need to be replaced. I have towed this trailer 100 miles with my pickup truck with no problem. The tires appear to be almost brand new. It has a lunette ring so you need a pintle or clevis receiver on your vehicle to pull it. It has air trailer brakes but they must be hooked up to a military vehicle with air brakes. It has a 24volt electrical system on the trailer so if you want to use the trailer lights you will have to modify them to work on 12volts. I just used a simple $10.00 magnetic trailer light set and stuck them on the trailer to pull it) The trailer is in excellent shape and ready for you to tow home. 10Kw 400Hz Generator w/3 Hours 4 Cyl Diesel Military MEP-112a 120/208/220
Here is a military surplus 10kw(military rating) generator with only 2.9 Hours on the meter! Not since a rebuild. But TOTAL. Manufactured Feb 1989 by Libby Corp. The intake and exhaust as well as the battery terminals were taped and sealed shut with military looking duct take and plastic. The fuel tank and crankcase were tagged as being empty and to fill before operating. Starts and runs like it should. Took a couple minutes to get the air out of the lines and smoked a little first few seconds on the first start. But after that no smoke other than normal black smoke when reving up to operating speed from idle. Set on 120/220 and gauge indicates these voltages. Showing about 40lbs oil pressure after it warmed up, actually pegged the gauge(50 psi) when cold. Powered by a 4 cylinder air cooled Onan diesel engine. The military rating of 10Kw ... moreis probably very conservative. They usually rate their equipment to run at a percentage of it's actual potential. Assume this machines original intended purpose was for flight line powering of aircraft hence the 400Hz, but you should be able to run any resistive load such as lights and heaters. Probably other ways to use it. And in case you missed it, it's powered by an Onan diesel engine showing 2.9 Hrs as of this posting. Now we have a generator that we can’t use. Sitting in our garage where our vehicle is supposed to be. We need to get it out of there so we are starting it $200 less than we paid for it. US Military 10kW generator MEP-003a on M116A2 Trailer
US military MEP-003a 10kW Diesel generator mounted on an M116A2 trailer. Low hours on the engine; extensive service work done to the fuel system by a professional shop. Rebuilt injection pump. Fuel lines cleaned, new filters, fuel tank steam cleaned, and so on. Runs great! Battery trays include mil-spec adapters to fit Optima blue top series 31s instead of the insanely expensive ordnance batteries. The trailer is ratty but solid and has a current Maine registration and tag. Bows included but not the long wooden stay across them. Pretty decent GI cover included- needs stitching and a few new straps. The rear panel voltage meter does not work for some reason. but a DVM on the output will confirm 240V single phase output. I have some spare parts to go with it. I'll post photos of it mounted on the M116 soon! Because of a horrible. This is a 10kw military generator. It has been converted over to propane and mounted to a trailer. This unit runs and generates great. It hooks right up to a gas grill bottle and starts very easy. My understanding is this unit is a 12 lead generator meaning it can be wired to any configuration. It currently is wired 120/208 three phase. Meaning any one of the three hot leads to neutral will produce 120v and any two of the three hot leads together will produce 208v. Lister 10kw 2 cylinder diesel generator. Engine is a 2 cylinder Lister diesel 20 HP. Lister is/was made in England. Electric start and also has a hand crank start. This generator was working fine when we replaced it with a 20kw unit. I personally ran and maintained this generator for about 2 years. It was a great little unit. Just under powered for our application. Always started right up. It leaks oil mostly from the engine covers. I have a large quantity of spare parts including filters. Gaskets, fuel lines, etc. The generator data plate is almost completely obscured so I can't give a lot of details on the generator itself. Generator is a 10kw. 12.5kva I believe it was wired up for 208/ 3 phase but it's been so long I can't remember. It weighs roughly 800 lbs so you'll need a trailer to move it. This is a 3 phase diesel generator. 10KW- will work perfectly as whole house generator etc. Unit was sold to me as originally have only 10 hours of use. STORED INSIDE! Originally purchased from government liquidators for $4000 for 2 units. On this generator I did the following: 1) Upgraded the fuel filter system with spin on filter and water separator. 2) Obtained and included but not installed spin on oil filter kit(3) removed fuel tank. Blasted and sealed I have not tried to start the unit- I bought this because I didn't have natural gas and now I do so i no longer need this unit.
