Birmal air inlet valve? for diesel stationary engine?.
This auction is for a Birmal? air inlet valve? For what i guess would be used on a diesel stationary engine. It looks like a carburetor to me but has no fuel inlet on it making me think it must be for a diesel engine? I have no idea what this is for(in case you had not already guessed! Or what it came off or even the age of it. It was in the garage among a lot of other random objects that belonged to my late father. As stated above this looks like a carburetor to me but has no inlet port for fuel. Making me think it must be for a diesel and used just to control air flow in to the engine. It has in small lettering the word"BIRMAL" on one side, this is in a diamond shape with the B and L smallest and the R+M largest. This is cast into the main body below the trumpet, it's just visible in pic 1. On the other side where the clamp ... moremounts the valve to the pipe there are some numbers stamped in" 275/012R" There are no other identification marks i can find. Valve appears to be made mainly of aluminum as is the pipe. Although the fittings are steel. I am guessing there would normally be some kind of knob? or similar on the hex bar end sticking out the bottom. The piston inside is stuck, it looks a little like an SU type piston set up. As you can see in the photo's it is in need of a clean and rebuild. The pictures can describe more of it than i can so i'll just give the sizes below and stop there. Sizes are as follows: height 14 cms(from cable inlet to end of hex fitting) Width 14 cms(from bottom of pipe to top of trumpet) depth 55 mm(valve) 50 mm(pipe) Trumpet size is 43 mm outside and 22 mm inside.
