I bought the Ridgid 36163 and found the culprit in 15 minutes, a loose 5 inch PVC cleanout cap that would build up gas under pressure and belch a wonderful odor occasionally. This machine is very simple to operate. And rugged. It detects over a dozen noxious combustible gases including Methane. Propane, Butane, Ethanol, Ammonia, Hydrogen. It has a nice beefy bendable gooseneck to get into tight places. Comes with an instructional DVD too, but I was able to operate it within 5 minutes after reading quick start. Controls come with led and vibration alerts. Very very handy tool. It is in pristine condition and has been sitting in a box for a month. 14 day money back with restocking fee $50.
