Vintage Folk Art Butcher Restaurant BBQ Paint Trade Sign Pig Hog Country Farm
From the estate of the owner of a local butcher shop. Here, in Southwest Florida. This wonderful sign is one of two that I am offering. Both were displayed in his shop. This sign appears to have been handcrafted.carved and painted. The wood is approx. 1/2 thick. The pigs feet are pegged into the base board(on the other piece the pegs slide out, on this piece they appear to be glued in place) Very structurally sound, stands with no worry of falling. In terrific condition with no breaks, cracks, chips in the wood. The paint is good with very minor scuffing.only mentioned for accuracy. Unsure of the age, could very well be vintage. If you're not going to pay at all, then just hit the BACK button and don' t even go any further. This is a hand painted. Hand lettered sign on thin signboard. I know that it's old, I'm not sure when or when it came from, but judging by the price I would say it's fairly old. The sign, not including the frame measures about 21 3/4" wide by 14" tall. The frame is thin chrome. Or shiny metal at least, covering wood, with a glass. The signboard is stamped, or watermarked CRESCENT QUALITY BOARDS on the back. The frame has a lot of little flaws. And though it adds to the look, the sign itself is the main item. Cheap roadside food. This is for a vintage cardboard sign/window card/advertisment for the Penn Valley(California) Volunteer Fire Department's 16th Annual Barbecue and Rodeo. Which took place on Sunday, April 30 at Pegar's Y intersection. Measures 14 x 11" Undated. This rodeo is still going on, and this year will be the 56th Annual Rodeo, making one infer this is from 1973(56th year minus the 16th year, equalling 40 years ago) However, in 2004 the rodeo was not held, thus making this from 1972, and in fact, April 30 was on a Sunday in 1972, so this all resolves out as being from 1972. Neat design with lettering and a small rode graphic on white cardboard. Great"YIPEE-E! on the top. Cost for the BBQ was $1.75 for adults and $1.00 for children. There are two minor chips/ gouge on the underside of the large B letter and Q off the BBQ on the underside. Both can be easily detailed with exterior spackle toned and colored. Tennessee. Based upon research that I did on the history of these events at Jack Daniel's web site, it appears that these invitational barbecues began during the Fall of 1989 for competition in a range of BBQ categories. Each year, Jack Daniel's designed a"custom" poster/sign for the event which were available for sale to attendees. Their website shows the"custom" posters/signs- beginning with the"Twelfth" Invitational Barbecue. However, they do not display any signage for years prior to the Twelfth invitational barbecue. With that said, it appears that this ... moreparticular sign could very well have been the first year that they began creating these"custom" posters/signs. It appears also from my research on their site that they designed only one"custom" poster/sign for the Twelfth event, while some subsequent years had more than one"custom" poster/sign. For example, there are three"custom" posters/signs for their Thirteenth invitational and two"custom" posters/signs for their Sixteenth invitational. Please note that they did not include the"year" of the event on this sign. According to the pictures on their website. The first time that they began including the"year" was in 2004 for their"Sixteenth" Annual World Championship Invitational Barbecue. Based on this information, and doing basic subtraction, I would guesstimate that this custom poster/sign was for their event in the year 2000. You should do your own research on this as well.
