Up for bid is this very nice chafing dish. It is copper coated aluminum with a wooden handle. It is in very good condition with the fuel source container being the only piece that definitely looks like it was used. The base appears to be all copper. But I can't say for certain. It is approx. 10" tall to the top of the knob on the lid(8" tall without the lid) and about 15" across to the end of the handle. This piece would add a nice touch to your dinner party! WWII (??) Military ruberized fuel / water (??) storage container
Very unusual military storage container. I am making an assumption this is a World War II era piece. Though one I have never before encountered. It is approximately 12" x 18" in size, rubberized, and has an unusual filling mechanism(pictured) The screw cap appears to be aluminum, and I have no idea exactly what type of fuel it might be used to contain. I doubt very much that it was designed for water though that is what the seller I bought it from thought it was. The center of the filler is spring loaded, and pushes down approximately a 1/4" then pops back into position to maintain its seal. The rubber is intact, without any noticeable breaks or cracks(though I have not tried to fill it with any sort of liquid. There are 4 clips on the back to secure it to perhaps a pack ot vehicle or? The bottom two of 4 hooks has a 3/4" ... morex ~10" rubberized strap between the two clips. There is what appears to be a military ID number: 15-476. Another number on it is 225982. I am also making the assumption this is US in origin, though it could certainly be from another country, possibly even Axis in origin. I would welcome any emails which could help me identify this more accurately. I will start this at 49.99. And see where it goes and how much interest there may be in the piece. This is a New South Wales Railways 5 gallon fuel drum for Gangers and Inspectors motorised trikes or Towing Inspection Cars(TIC) which is the official name for the motorised trolleys. The brass cap is branded NSWTD(Transport Department) and has the TIC initials. The drums were made in the NSWGR Permanent Way Workshops to a design drawn up in 1939.
