WW2 Luftwaffe Ju88 Crash Relic - Tile Breaker Incendiary Nose Cap - Blitz 1941
This is a relic Tile Breaker Incendiary Projectile Nose Cap from a Junkers Ju 88 bomber which crashed during the“Blitz” and was found in the early seventies. They were very heavy and were designed to smash through tiled and slated roofs so that the incendiary caused the most damage to the wooden eaves. The nose cap(fuse) is heavy steel or iron and it is corroded after being buried for thirty years. You can still see the threaded end where it screwed into the magnesium body of the bomb. Looking in to the mechanism you can also see the remains of the striker spring. It is about 6 cm x 5 cm and it all weighs about 600 grams I am selling the fragments and relics from the crash site of a Junkers JU88. The researcher to my husband’s aircraft recovery group identified this. From eye-witness accounts, as an aircraft which crashed and exploded in ... more1941 in a beet field on a farm near Bishops Stortford, Essex. The items recovered included various fragments of fuselage and exploded 7.92 ammunition cases(and separate bullet heads) typically stamped S* 21 38(the date 1938) and P120(Dynamit A.G) some are also dated 1940. There were also Tile-Breaker 1 KG steel incendiary bomb fuses and many small pieces of Perspex or plexiglass– some burnt in the explosion. There is also a large switch of some type which it has been suggested could be the bomb release. As there are so many pieces we are selling these items in small manageable lots at very modest starting prices rather than one job lot. It will also keep the postage costs down for the heavier items. We will combine postage for buyers of multiple lots] Note: In the early seventies he belonged to a(very) amateur aircraft archaeology group and they tracked down and searched Second World War aircraft crash sites(by hand) and recovered many interesting fragments. He’s long since lost touch with the guys who did the research and we think they went on to be much more organised– and mechanised.
