The lighting relay switches on the lamps in the lighted lids when appropriate per user input and Ultra-2 programming(machine plugged in. Turned on, not in night or defrost mode) This device is found inside the machine above the compressor on the right side of the machine(when looking from the front) SYMPTOMS: If the lamps in your lighted lids do not come on. You've checked the bulbs, plugs, sockets and circuit breaker, then this relay is likely the problem. A relay is simply an electrically-operated switch. When electricity is supplied to the relay. A coil energizes and creates a magnetic field that pulls a metal piece toward the magnetized coil. Attached to the moving metal piece is an electrical contact that comes together with a stationary electrical contact, allowing electricity to flow through the two contacts. The Ultra-2 electronic control board(main"brain" sends electricity to this relay that in turn sends power to the lamps in the lighted lids. This is a brand new from the Factory ... more120 Volt Compressor Temperature Overload Switch for the Bunn Ultra-2 machine with the T-2168 compressor. This is designed for the 120VAC Ultra-2 HP machine. There have been three different compressors used in the Ultra-2 machine to date. So visually check and if your comressor has a label with"T-2168" on it this is the correct part. This switch is clamped against the oustide of the compressor and monitors its temperature. If the compressor gets too hot(often because users do not plug the machine into a dedicated circuit or use a long and small gauge extension cord) This switch opens and stops electricity from getting to the compressor to prevent damage. When the compressor cools down, the switch closes automatically and the compressor can again get electricity. The actual replacement of this part is relatively easy. But the troubleshooting needed to determine the need to replace is intermediate and may require a repair technician with electrical and refrigerant systems experience. If your compressor fails to start, after checking and confirming all control circuits this switch and the start capacitor and compressor start relay may be the next likely culprits.
