I hooked it up and although you could hear mechanical relay type noises when the switches were depressed(they are momentary switches I believe) nothing ever lit up. iMAC 20'' Desktop - A1224 (For Parts Or Repair) Needs Video Card Replaced & HDD
Up for auction is an iMac 20' desktop that will be sold as an AS IS basis. The cosmetic on this desktop is in really good condition. Very few signs of wear and tear. it actually still looks brand new. There are very few scuffs on it which is expected to have as a normal every day use. To my knowledge. This desktop has been used on a daily basis since it was bought in August of 2008. It's been a very good machine and has given great service; never did have any problems with it. However, until recently, the screen did give out on it. It was taken to the Apple store and the technician said that more than likely the video card given out and it needed to be replaced. Due to my everyday work schedule. I don't have the time to work with it and instead it was replaced with a Mac mini. As far as the machine goes. It still powers on and ... moreboots up but lines are shown and the color is distorted. as shown on the pictures above) Motherboard, screen, and everything else seems to still be working fine and is fully functional. I'm not too familiar on the Mac design, but in my opinion. it can be either the graphics card or an inverter issue(if it has one) This desktop would be a good project for someone who has a good knowledge and skills in computer repair. Or for someone who is interested in looking for good working parts. FYI. Since I couldn't reformat the hard drive. this was removed from the iMac since it contains much personal information. The caddy(black plastic) and screws are still inside the machine. This can be replaced quickly and easily with a new hard drive. The hard drive is the only thing that will be missing on this desktop, everything else is still included. even the two 2 gig memory sticks.
