Vintage CHINESE IMARI FLAT SOUP BOWL w/Early STAPLE REPAIR This Vintage LOW/FLAT SOUP BOWL is a CHINESE IMARI porcelain piece. It has been cracked and repaired by the ANCIENT ART of STAPLING. This type of repair is much sturdier and long lasting that the modern repairs done with glues or epoxys. The bowl must have been worth a sizable sum to have it repaired in this way. The pattern has a central circle containing a single flower and 6 radiating wedges radiating from the center. 3 of the wedges are cobalt blue with a gold design and 3 wedges are white with pink. Blue and green floral designs. The upper edge of the bol's rim has a band containing 6 wide patterned sections separated by 6 narrow cobalt blocks. The under-side of the bowl is white. The bowl is in good condition, but does have the staple repair on the under-side and 2 small'flakes' ... moreon the upper edge. Just guessing, we think the bowl is circa late 1800s. It measures 4 1/2" across the bottom rim, 9" across the top and is 1 1/2" deep. Please take a look at the attached pictures and judge for yourself.
