It has a repair label(or I believe it to be) from Karol Blondek dated 1880. Mr. Blondek hailed from Poland and passed ... moreaway in 1939. It is clearly very old and I believe to be Tyrolean made in the Stainer style. There is a repair to the button. Most likely reset to accept modern strings and playing styles and a prominent grain split on the table near the treble F Hole. Both are old repairs and are rock solid. The varnish is original and has aged to a wonderful dark caramel brown. It measures 23.5" long. The body is 14" and is 8.5" at the lower bout and 6.5" at the upper, the ribs are 1.5" deep. It is fully lined on the interior and corner blocked. It is a top cabin instrument. Here's some links to what these sold for at recent major auction houses: It is setup and sounds wonderful. Very sweet and slightly warm and would make a great small ensemble or lead violin. It ships in the case shown. A wooden coffin style case that might be original. This button you see pictured here once belonged to a Yankee Staff Officer and it was unearthed while I was metal detecting on a farm in Northern Virginia. Ordinarily. Buttons are buttons but I believe there's more to this story, a whole lot more for you see this button was not lost once but twice. Before I go any further it's important for you must realize this button does not look today like it did the day it was made. Take a look Our Yankee Staff Officer is pretty high ranked. Most likely a Brigadier General, and he's out in the woods having a looksee at some Confederate movement, in his haste to return to headquarters to report the movement he snags his coat on a branch. A button tears off and drops to the ground. Now we know two things; snagging the button wouldn't have broken it and we also know that it wasn't a Staff ... moreOfficer who did the field repair. How can I say that? Well, because Staff Officers had access to plenty of buttons and even had people to sew them on. Now the question begging to be asked is. Was the solider who first found the button a Confederate soldier? A soldier finds the button.maybe it got stepped on.takes the button front and bends it around a smaller button back- instant field repair for a soldier who had no buttons nor much of anything else for that matter and between the two sides which of their men would bother going to such trouble? We all know who the second person was to find this button and now you know the rest of the story. What makes this so extremely rare is that field repairs. Especially to fragile things like buttons, didn't survive very long during use and being unearthed some 122 years later and still intact makes it a very fortunate find indeed. Vintage 1970's Olds Ambassador French Horn with Case - For Repair
This is an older F.E. Olds Ambassador French Horn in F. Serial# 840048 shows manufactured in the early 1970's. It comes with a case. But no mouthpiece, Appearance wise, it in very good condition. There are a few small dings and a very small amount of lacquer missing, but no serious dents, bends, holes, etc. The case is in very good condition. The pictures show the condition quite well. Feel free to write with questions or to request more pictures. Here are the issues with the horn. 1. 2nd Valve tuning slide is stuck. 2. 2nd valve is operating. But need to be restrung. 3. 3rd valve is frozen. I used valve oil to try to loosen it. But chose to not try and force it to move. This link will take you to an Olds Serial Number Look Up.
